Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
Rap music=No singing, and no instrument playing. How can they call themselves musicians or singers? What should we call them? Rock music you never get tired of, and it always sells, rap artists are a revolving turnstile, here today gone tomorrow.

People who make music are musicians, whether it's done by instrument, or voice.

Hey what's wrong with Garth?

I get into all kinda of music... even Garth Brooks.

Just 'cause you don't like him doesn't mean he's a clown....

Here and there
I hate rap. Can't stand it. I'll do a 100-yard dash in seconds flat to turn it off.

But obviously, a great many people like it. And if it sells, more power to the artists.
I mean, I hated disco, too, but love '60's and '70's soul. We're all different, so to each his/her own...

Hey Speedo

There's hip hop that has sixties and seventies rhythmn to it.
Rap/Hip has a diverse sound and a lot artists sample beats from other eras of black music. You may find some to your liking Speedo.

Some people on this board seem critical of hip hop yet really haven't given the genre a chance. If Eminem and Nelly is the best you guys can come up with in regards to what you are using as examples, no wonder you guys hate it. I would to. You guys are just listening and judging the top 40 shit.

Try exploring the music before judging it. As the old saying goes, "don't judge a book by its cover".

By the way 4leafclover; since you seem to be an expert in music, who is it that you listen to?

Seems like a lot of folks here don't get it when it comes to music. Kids always want to listen to music that shocks or bothers their parents. It's the whole rebellion thing. Heck the stuff I listened to was considered nuts and crap noise and crazy and poor taste. Now it is heard in sports arenas all over and some of it is even considered "classic" rock! Of course the youth of our generation needs something that pushes the boundaries from what we listened to. Is that so hard to understand?

OK clover, just like if you don't like a poster here, put them on ignore. Do the same with music you don't like. But making generalizations about the artists when you quite honestly couldn't have a clue, is what makes you ignorant. There are many different people, with many different background out there, and until you take the time to actually find out something about them, I would recommened keeping you mouth shut. Before you look even more like an ignorant ass than you do.

Remy: I was simply providing clover with an option to NOT listen to the music he does not like, as opposed to coming onto a board, where there are people with many different likes and dislikes, and trying to put down and entire genre of music. If I were an ignorant ass, as you so kindly suggest, I would not have been so kind as to advise him of the age old adage:

"It is better to be quiet and be thought a fool, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt"

That's very insightful, hdog.
If it is that easy, maybe you should bust some rhymes. Go platinum and make a ton of money.

Since it seems that you're an expert in music; I would like to hear what you would regard as music.
What music do you listen to?

The question as to whether rap is a real music form or is good music is very subjective.

But what is without doubt is that rap is a horrible influence to kids who listen to it. It promotes attitude, violence and disrespect. If the FCC is going to ban nudity on daytime TV broadcasts, rap should definitely be banned.

Does anyone agree that rap should be banned before it ruins the kids' attitudes and society completely?

Dude, hdog!!

I don't know why you hatin!

I mean there are some hip hop artists who blend their rhymes with jazz. In fact you can get a ton of compilations of jazz and hip hop. There are jazz musicians who have worked with hip hop artists and made some really good music.

I hate Eminem too. Don't use that fool as an example of hip hop.

Nursery Rhymes? C'mon. Are you that close minded?
Haven't you ever read poetry in your life? And if so, were those poems something that took no talent, no emotion and no intellect?
(And please do not use Emniem as an example or any top 40 rap artist)

And Lumix?

Why not blame the war in Iraq on "the rap music?"

You must as well say that if you play "the rap music" backwards it promotes satanism.

Kids do not become violent and go into a life of crime because of rap music. How about social ailments like poverty? Lack of funding to education and community centres? An overactive consumer market that brainwashes kids into purchasing the most expensive sneakers, clothes, etc...?

And even it was the media's fault? How about video games and violent movies?

Or maybe it just close minded old timers's who give these kids attitude about the way they dress and what they listen to that gets them to give attitude back?

Plus, kids who listen to country, rock, heavy metal, alternative music, etc... have been known to be anti-social and break the law.

Or did you mean to say its "the black kids" who listen to "the rap music" that break the law.

Real nice attitude there Manji - you'll get far in life with comments like that. Don't get caught saying stuff like that in public. This ain't the 1950s.

Really Lumix? It isn't the 1950's?
I guess I forgot to change my calendar.
Dude, first of all, I was kidding.
Second, the way your posts are heading; it just seems like you're only a post or two away from saying that.
(Sorry, I guess its not that funny if I have to spell it out for you.)

Hdog, its cool.
You can't judge hip hop by some guys who pander to the public by swearing, using sex and all kinds of stupidity to sell records.

I have to admit I don't listen to too much hiphop/jazz fusion but try the Rebirth of Cool Compilations. The Roots are widely respected in that regard. Gangstarr has a pretty good sound and his lyrics are worth listening to.

Have a few buds who listen to that specific genre. Will get back to you if you want to hear more recommendations.
