+1 for randy's and allan's

As for food...the ghetto places are the best....you all forgot to mention drupati's in the west...family restaurants have branched off from that joint in brampton and sauga

I believe they have won awards from toronto for their food

Yep, there are a bunch of places at Eglinton/Marlee that put out charcoal cookers whenever the weather is good.
I usually go to Rap's or Spence's.
I think I prefer the food at Spence's, while I find Rap's a bit more welcoming.
There is a place at Finch/Alness called "Wrap&Jerk" or something like that. Clean place, polite service, but the chicken tastes like it is baked, not grilled. Not especially spicey, but their homemade pepper sauce is nice.

These places on Eglinton do not cook the meat over a charocoal grill, the meat is baked first, then steamed and smoked in those outdoor modified oil drums to impart a simulated or pseudo jerk experience. Mr Jerk actually grills the meat properly, no baking as is done in Jamaica in jerk pits. I am not saying that baking cannot be delicious, but the charcoal or word fire is essential to get the unique jerk taste. The jerk seasonsed meat juice needs to drip onto the hot coals, with the resulting flavourful smoking vapour coating the meat.

Ohhh my gawwd...yummy yummy yummy the Jerk in the box is really good. Had the oxtail and was so delicious that I eneded up swallowing up a bone. The young gal there was also very friendly and a cutie pie + she let me try some jerk pork and again OMG so flavourful and delics. Damn man, I am such a sucker for good Caribbean food and cute gals. So yeah this place is definitely worth checking out! It's also funny as soon as I started talking to her the Cheaters prayer come up on the radio by Christopher Martin...talk about a sign + reading my mind..LMAO...still chocking on that bone :p

BTW, thx for all the other recs I am sure I'll get a chance to try many of them. I am convinced that terb has the answers to all of life's wonders!!!

Only one I've tried in the area was Jerk Box on the South West corner of Jane and Lawrence. Just got the $5 special which was 1/4 Jerk or Bar-B-Cue Chicken with rice and beans and cole slaw. Also comes with a pop, water or small bottled juice. Not bad for $5 all in. Normally would get Mr Jerk from Derry and Goreway Drive in Malton. Again, just rice and peas and jerk chicken. Lots of line up for the pork there though. I've also bought from miscellaneous places on St Clair and even downtown in Kensington Market.

Lol, Yeah the food is great but the young chick cashing is pretty delicious too.

She got's some lyrics too. Heard her dropping some sweet talk on a big muscular Jamaican guy that came in for porridge one morning.

... And best Jerk Seasoning I have found in stores is Grace's Jamaican Jerk Seasoning. It is in a bottle and labelling almost identical to original post picture (same size and shape bottle etc) just says Grace Jamaican Jerk Seasoning on the bottle. I usually see Grace and the original posted picture almost side by side in grocery stores. Put a bit too much Grace's on your food and it will be hotter than hell.
Ok, I tried Grace Jerk seasoning head to head with walkerswood. You can buy both at loblaw. Marinated the drumsticks night before and right away could see and smell the difference with the walkers. Next day preheated the BBQ to 380-400c and grilled the drumsticks approx 30mins +/- 2mins. The grace seasoning burnt a little and walkers looked perfect. Taste wise it has a good flavour, however the walkers was far superior and perfectly seasoned and looks delicious. Also the chicken meat was so much juicer and dripping with juice when bitten into. The other guests also thought that grace was more salty and preffered the walkers.

So overal I liked the falvour, hower I still prefer the walkers FTW. Also reheating the chicken tasted so much better. Thx for the suggestion.

RIP to Roseanne from Mr. Jerk on Wellesley E. I will miss seeing her behind the counter during my night time jerk chicken runs.

Never tried Mr.Jerk. Any good? I was under the impression it was ran by Asian people. When I go to a Caribbean place, I like to see Caribbean making the food...lol.

Mr. Jerk on Sherbourne has the best Jerk Pork in the city.
Mr Jerk uses a special charcoal grill to cook the pork to give it that unique flavour as is done in Jamaica. Other "jerk" places in Toronto merely bake the pork or chicken in an oven which is just not the same. One place on Eglinton Avenue West near Oakwood even has a lady bake the chicken in the oven at home, then bring it through the backdoor of the restaurant and reheat the chicken on bbq grills set up outside the restaurant on the sidewalk resulting in a greasy oil and water flavour.

This location also has my favourite oxtail. I've tried another location and it wasn't the same, so I'm loyal to this location. I've had oxtail from a lot of other places, and nowhere else has matched it so far.

This has to be my favourite thread ever on Terb.

Join me down this rabbit hole wont you:
Ghetto/poor neighbourhoods often mean cheaper rent, employees are probably paid under the table and/or fresh of the boat which means less overhead costs and more authentic tasting food.

Heres another thought, why not combine your love for hobbying and excellent Caribbean food in one? Date night two Black SPs who cook for you and service your every need you till you reach Valhalla.
 defibrillator extra  :yield: lol

I haven't been but I saw an episode of You Gotta Eat Here (Catucci is a goof) and the food at Patois looked pretty good.

FWIW, I think Chris Jerk @ Birchmount and Finch and Rasta Pasta in Kensington market have the best jerk. I’m shocked nobody has mentioned them yet as they are usually the 2 that get recommended on foodie boards. Me. Jerk is good as well for jerk pork and oxtail. However I find the oxtail gravy very inconsistent depending on the location and visit. It’s never terrible but sometimes more flavourful and sometimes less. For me jerk or oxtail gravy is a must for jerk, otherwise too dry.

they have asians working in the back but its owned by a white guy who is of jamaican heritage. if you ever talk to him, you will see that he sounds hardcore jamaican. to me they have the best jerk chicken in town at the sherbourne location. Especially if you can get it when it comes fresh out of the kitchen. the 1/2 chicken is very moist compared to most jerk places. For jerk pork, their location on hwy 7 in markham is the best. perfect combination of lean and fat there.
