Yep, there are a bunch of places at Eglinton/Marlee that put out charcoal cookers whenever the weather is good.
I usually go to Rap's or Spence's.
I think I prefer the food at Spence's, while I find Rap's a bit more welcoming.
There is a place at Finch/Alness called "Wrap&Jerk" or something like that. Clean place, polite service, but the chicken tastes like it is baked, not grilled. Not especially spicey, but their homemade pepper sauce is nrrice.
Only one I've tried in the area was Jerk Box on the South West corner of Jane and Lawrence. Just got the $5 special which was 1/4 Jerk or Bar-B-Cue Chicken with rice and beans and cole slaw. Also comes with a pop, water or small bottled juice. Not bad for $5 all in. Normally would get Mr Jerk from Derry and Goreway Drive in Malton. Again, just rice and peas and jerk chicken. Lots of line up for the pork there though. I've also bought from miscellaneous places on St Clair and even downtown in Kensington Market.
Lol, Yeah the food is great but the young chick cashing is pretty delicious too.Ohhh my gawwd...yummy yummy yummy the Jerk in the box is really good. Had the oxtail and was so delicious that I eneded up swallowing up a bone. The young gal there was also very friendly and a cutie pie + she let me try some jerk pork and again OMG so flavourful and delics. Damn man, I am such a sucker for good Caribbean food and cute gals. So yeah this place is definitely worth checking out! It's also funny as soon as I started talking to her the Cheaters prayer come up on the radio by Christopher Martin...talk about a sign + reading my mind..LMAO...still chocking on that bone
BTW, thx for all the other recs I am sure I'll get a chance to try many of them. I am convinced that terb has the answers to all of life's wonders!!!
Ok, I tried Grace Jerk seasoning head to head with walkerswood. You can buy both at loblaw. Marinated the drumsticks night before and right away could see and smell the difference with the walkers. Next day preheated the BBQ to 380-400c and grilled the drumsticks approx 30mins +/- 2mins. The grace seasoning burnt a little and walkers looked perfect. Taste wise it has a good flavour, however the walkers was far superior and perfectly seasoned and looks delicious. Also the chicken meat was so much juicer and dripping with juice when bitten into. The other guests also thought that grace was more salty and preffered the walkers.... And best Jerk Seasoning I have found in stores is Grace's Jamaican Jerk Seasoning. It is in a bottle and labelling almost identical to original post picture (same size and shape bottle etc) just says Grace Jamaican Jerk Seasoning on the bottle. I usually see Grace and the original posted picture almost side by side in grocery stores. Put a bit too much Grace's on your food and it will be hotter than hell.
Never tried Mr.Jerk. Any good? I was under the impression it was ran by Asian people. When I go to a Caribbean place, I like to see Caribbean making the food...lol.RIP to Roseanne from Mr. Jerk on Wellesley E. I will miss seeing her behind the counter during my night time jerk chicken runs.
They're jamaican chineseNever tried Mr.Jerk. Any good? I was under the impression it was ran by Asian people. When I go to a Caribbean place, I like to see Caribbean making the food...lol.
Mr Jerk uses a special charcoal grill to cook the pork to give it that unique flavour as is done in Jamaica. Other "jerk" places in Toronto merely bake the pork or chicken in an oven which is just not the same. One place on Eglinton Avenue West near Oakwood even has a lady bake the chicken in the oven at home, then bring it through the backdoor of the restaurant and reheat the chicken on bbq grills set up outside the restaurant on the sidewalk resulting in a greasy oil and water flavour.Mr. Jerk on Sherbourne has the best Jerk Pork in the city.
This location also has my favourite oxtail. I've tried another location and it wasn't the same, so I'm loyal to this location. I've had oxtail from a lot of other places, and nowhere else has matched it so far.Mr. Jerk on Sherbourne has the best Jerk Pork in the city.
they have asians working in the back but its owned by a white guy who is of jamaican heritage. if you ever talk to him, you will see that he sounds hardcore jamaican. to me they have the best jerk chicken in town at the sherbourne location. Especially if you can get it when it comes fresh out of the kitchen. the 1/2 chicken is very moist compared to most jerk places. For jerk pork, their location on hwy 7 in markham is the best. perfect combination of lean and fat there.Never tried Mr.Jerk. Any good? I was under the impression it was ran by Asian people.
