My point is that unrestricted abortions, just like unrestricted "free speech" and other rights often need some rational restrictions. Female feticides should be one of the reasonable restrictions. It's more than one doctor in B.C., that view is shared by many.

"The obstetricians group says it doesn't condone abortions based on non-medical reasons such as the gender of the fetus."

So then you support a woman's right to choose subject to some reasonable restrictions?

Abortion is not outlawed in the USA. If a woman lives in a State that doesn't allow it and really desires to kill her kid, she can still go to a State where infanticide is legal. Maybe inconvenient. But how much do you really want it.

So you agree that people with money and who can afford to take time of work, stay in a hospital, travel etc. should have the right to choose but poor people and mostly people if color should not.

People with money can do lots of things that poor people cannot afford to do.

Abortion is not birth control. Have you heard about the pill, the morning after pill, condoms?

How come one type of abortion is ok but another type is not?
Neither is okay however discretion may have been given simply because it's harder to regulate both in the same manner.

There is also a difference between killing a life at 9 months versus a day after conception, in terms of potential harm to the mother, physical cruelty to the baby, requiring aid from a third party in the killing, potential creation of harmful black market of pills, and the pill being an entirely private matter.

Anyone? Here goes:

Typically, pregnancies range from 38 to 42 weeks and babies are considered viable at 37 weeks. The law does not define "health" or viability of a fetus.
  • 19 states ban abortion at 20 weeks of pregnancy.
  • 5 states ban abortion at 24 weeks of pregnancy.
  • 18 states ban abortion based on viability of the fetus.

As long as right wingers keep pushing ant-abortion acts, climate change denial and tax breaks for millionaires liberals in NA will keep getting elected.
Keep it up.

But that does not address abortion based on the gender of the child, so how is that a reasonable compromise to you?
That point was actually brought up in the debates leading up to the new law being enacted. I can't go into details because ...................................

The new law, while not perfect, is a reasonable compromise compared to the old law.

BTW 1: I heard that some doctors and clinics in Canada decline to reveal the gender of the fetus.

BTW 2: I use to play beer league hockey with this guy. One night another player asked him "how many kids in his family?

He answered 6. 5 girls and 1 boy. The boy is adopted.

Although I'm not an Irish lawyer, my take on the new Irish abortion law is:

Abortion is illegal but there are a few exceptions, The main exception is when the health of the mother and/or the fetus is at risk.
