Handwriting from a shell-casing would be hard to trace to a person (too small a space) but this guy was stupid in many other ways. Going into a Starbucks and buying a bottle of water (he was caught on video here) and then leaving that bottle behind at the scene was dumb. He was also seen talking on his phone. Talking on your phone (unless it was a burner) is really dumb -- your calls leave data footprint. Lurking around the scene of the crime before it happened where passersby can see you is really dumb.
Some people on social media are saying they think it was a professional hit. No way would someone experienced with hits leave so much evidence behind. They'd also have bene totally stealth in their stalking.
If thats true then cops now have his DNA.

It's a matter of time before he's caught. I'm sure by now they've swabbed the bottle and obtained a genetic profile. If they don't already have better leads, they can upload his DNA profile to GEDmatch and find out who is closest relatives are. No one is safe leaving DNA behind since police started using GEDmatch.
I'm convinced companies like 23andme and AncestryDNA are selling their DNA databases to law enforcement

I would agree that the hit didn't look professional. But that shooter sure looked calm and deliberate I count at least two witnesses to the crime - a bystander on the sidewalk to the shooter's right and a driver in the car right in front of where the victim stumbled and fell from the first shot.
LOL. They all suck. And, for the vast majority of Americans, they get stuck with whatever insurance provider their company provides.
I think the odds of that happening are slim. Securities fraud, if they were convicted, is a slap on the wrist. You end up in a minimum security prison. This feels more likely to be someone UHC fucked over. There is a whole Reddit thread about how US insurers fucked over people, with hundreds telling their stories about denied coverage and massive debts...While I do not like violence, I can totally understand how someone could be moved to revenge for a faceless corporation that screws you over. And, as someone earlier pointed out in this thread, the decision to deny over 30% of claims had to come from the top.
Our system is far from perfect, but considering what I hear from Americans, it is significantly superior. Sure, you might need to wait a ridiculously long time to get something like knee replacement surgery or a non-critical diagnostic like and MRI for some aliment. But, if you are in the shit, you get critical care immediately.Do you folks really think the Canadian health care system is superior enough to justify the horrible comments here and elsewhere on the web?

Because what you are talking about is resource allocation.
And resource allocation is performed in every economic system, macro and micro.
In a socialized medicine system, everyone gets care. But at the cost of long waiting times and often a lack of access to the most new cutting edge treatments. If you are in a socialized medicine system, and you are in pain and feel that you are going to die before surgery, is it okay for you to shoot the Minister of Health? Hopefully not.
The U.S. discriminates in the delivery of its healthcare based on wealth (for most that is having insurance)), expected outcomes, and to a lesser extend age. The strong lobbying groups for the old keep that discrimination from occurring to the extent it probably should. The members of society producing the most, or have the possibility of producing a lot, or who have saved funds from having produced a lot for society get the best healthcare. The fundamentals behind that system has been around since the Spartans. It is my understanding that a not insignificant portion of wealthier Canadians go to the U.S. for treatments to avoid long waiting lists. The U.S. was once overly discriminatory in offering health insurance even to workers, which is why we got Obamacare, which I personally thought was a good piece of legislation.
Scarce resources get allocated in every system. The less that is paid to the providers of valuable resources, the less resources you get, making their allocation even less equitable. Those are fundamental principles common to every economic system. None of that is solved with firearms.
In the US, so many people are chained to their work because they need the insurance. And they pay crazy amounts for it AND still need to cover major costs for emergencies. There is a reason why they are the only industrialized country to not have socialized medicine. The rich love having the ability to get anything they want at any time, while the poor hope they can afford to get insulin...
If you have insurance the hospital cost is actually more in the US for every procedure.
So your co-payment is also higher than it should be.

I saw it and thought, 'holy shit, was his wife behind this?' and then as I read on, they don't really elaborate on the fact they were separated and even note that the FBI is treating this as a vendetta against the company.
The angst against USA health care is portrayed in Michael Moore's movie sicko, where a health insurance executive (Wendell Potter) admitted was factually correct. American health insurance companies make their billions denying claims. Thus, if suddenly you come down with cancer and file a claim which will involve major costs, a team from the insurance company will go through your application with a fine toothed comb looking for any reason to cancel your insurance. Thus a women who got uterine cancer got her insurance canceled because the insurance team claimed she failed to report having been treated for acne when she was 14, thus committed fraud in her application.
In contrast, individuals are not making millions denying claims in Australia or Canada etc.
