So the only EVs imported from China are Tesla cars for now. This will be slapped with a 100% tariff in Canada.
What is your point when you are the one questioning Frankfooter for quoting Tesla in the first place, as if it was not made in China?
Trump does not oppose it, but the only one who does so is of course Musk:

No.
You completely missed the point. (and the fact that it also includes Volvo/Polestar)

Let's try again...

When Trump wanted to impose tariffs on Chinese goods he was criticized for that strategy.
When Trudeau imposes tariffs on Chinese goods (starting with Teslas/Volvo's) everyone is good with it.

EVs manufactured in China are considered "Chinese goods". Not sure why that's even a point for discussion but I assume it's just another distraction tactic to take focus off the real point here...hypocrisy.

Cheque for what? Calling out hypocrisy?
The difference is, that Canada is doing it to first, be in line with the US and second they make no bones about it. It is to raise the price of Chinese EVS to not put North American products at a disadvantage. Trump does it by claiming he's benefitting the tax payer which is a bunch of nonsense. He is doing it for his own personal vendettas.

And your contention is there is no difference in the proposals other than who is making them?

Listen, Trump also imposed tariffs on Canadian goods. Canada had to response likewise. Are you all for Trump's tariffs?
Now these specific tariffs on Chinese good by Canada are on EVs. This is in unison with The USA and the European Union. The specific reason is the manner in which China is not adhering to International Trade Rules especially in this sector. Now are you saying that Canada did the same as China to fall into that category when Trump imposed those tariffs on Canada?
You are being hypocritical by supporting Trump whose intention was to screw up Canada's economy!!

There's actually no difference.

Trump does something and he's criticized.
Trudeau does the same thing...crickets.

I haven't seen the nitty-gritty details of each proposal have you? This isn't about which proposal is better or worse.

It's about the proposal itself.

In the absence of that, the principle is the same no?

You still don't get it.

This isn't about tariffs on Canada. This is about tariffs on Chinese goods.

Trump proposed doing it and was criticized.
Trudeau does it, and crickets.

See the difference?

You are unable to see the difference between those two policies, aren't you?

You just seem to pick and choose only the negatives about this whole tariffs controversy. Remember that PeePee was the one screaming about imposing these tariffs on China in the first place. These are targeted tariffs and not the blind ones imposed by Trump for his own political means!!
If Trudeau did not impose them, then once again he would have been damned for not doing it, especially after Jake Sullivan's visit to Canada. So at least these tariffs were done in tandem with not only the USA, but also The EU Nations. But remember that Canada's economy could be fully impacted if it did not impose those similar tariffs to that by the USA. Especially, as the EVs manufactured in China was always considered to be under unfair circumstances:

No?
Were people arguing tariffs on Chinese goods are bad on principle and should never happen? Not that I remember.
What tariffs, how many, and what claims are being made about what they would do is important.

Trump wanted tariffs on Chinese products...was criticized for it.
Trudeau puts tariffs on Chinese products...crickets.

It's really that simple.
No it isn't.
Six years, economically speaking, is a long time, many things can change and affect governments approach to trade.
Look at the EU and Russian trade relations over the past three years alone.
Again, read the article that spells out the answer to the question you are asking.

Here are the nitty gritty details with a timeline from 2018 till now.
Also includes the settlement in 2019 by the WTO between the US and the EU allowing up to 100% tariffs to be imposed on goods.
It includes the tarrifs imposed by the EU and the UK as well.
https://taxfoundation.org/research/all/federal/trump-tariffs-biden-tariffs/
Note that it only includes the tariffs the Trump administration imposed, not the 45% he promised on all Chinese manufactured goods.
https://archive.nytimes.com/www.nyt...ays-he-favors-big-tariffs-on-chinese-exports/
Also Trump now wants to impose, if elected, a 60% tarriff on all goods from China and a 10% tariff on all goods imported into the US, thereby nullifying all pst negotiated trade deals with all th US trading partners.

This isn't about whether it is good or bad.

I know it's hard for you to not distract to the Conservatives on every response you have, but this is not about Poilievre.

It's also not about whether tariffs are good or bad.

It's about hypocrisy.
