Ok, something`s just not right here...as someone from Kingston, who`s grown up with the Hip since the 80`s...The tickets for they`re final show went on sale today at 10 am for they`re final show at the K-Rock Center in Kingston. They were sold out within MINUTES!! Those of us who had to work at that time didn`t have a chance! These scum bag skelpers snap up these tickets, then resell them at wayyyy over inflated prices! Sorry, it`s just not right. I donno, I just think the final tickets should have been made available exclusively to Kingston residents first, as our way of wishing Gord all the best in his fight for his life!

There's talk CBC will air that concert live. I agree, scalpers have ruined that tour for fans that want to say goodbye.

To be fair, the way tickets go on sale is fair to everyone. Although some events have those early access credit card sales. But as a whole, tickets are simply a case of "you have to be the early bird to get the worm". Every event states tickets will go on sale on a certain day and time so everyone can prep for it.

Leaf tickets are no different. I haven't bought Leafs tix online for years, but when I did buy them, they'd also go on sale on a certain September day at 10 am. 41 home games, and I'd ballpark that after about 10-15 minutes all tix are gone. Even shitty standing room rail seats are gone. I wouldn't even bother wasting time checking for the good teams like Montreal or Boston. I'd just go for tier 2 teams because if I wasted time checking for Habs or Wings, I'd probably lose my chance buying tix for less popular teams.

The internet is the best thing to happen to ticket sellers. Because you have tons more people able to easily go after tickets. That's a key reason why ticket prices have skyrocketed over the years. Before the net, there's only so many people who would bother calling a CSR number or standing in line at a Ticketmaster kiosk at a Sunrise Records buying tickets. But I did that too. Get up early, and stand in line outside Sunrise Records at 9 am waiting for the store to open. And there were lots of other people doing the same. Early bird gets tix.

So with much greater demand and easier to access purchasing, it makes it so much harder. It's not like the arenas got any bigger. It's just now everyone can click Ticketmaster and buy tickets from their PC.

If you weren't willing to make the effort to try to get the tickets as soon as they went on sale, even if scalpers were banned, you would be out of luck in minutes as well. This was the case long before internet resell sites. High demand events (sports or concerts) sold out within 30 minutes. You had to line up at ticket master five or six hours before the event. Do people not remember that?

Someone who actually made the effort to get on line at 10:00 and lost out to a scalper may have something to whine about, But someone who was naively expecting to get tickets later, reallly need to wake up and look in the mirror as to whose fault it was.

The other hypocrisy is those that are whining about over inflated prices on the secondary market. It will still be a huge Hip fan either way that gets them -- just one that is wealthier and this upsets people. Are those same people upset that some poor people who also love the Hip and wanted to wish Gord well, couldn't even consider buying tickets on the primary market in the first place.

Yup.

People are always jealous of other's who have more cash to spend.

On on hand, people in democratic western countries brag about freedom, but when it comes to business they want things controlled tightly hoping to ensure everything fits their budget and timing.

But when they get lucky, they hoard it and are all happy. People don't like how gasoline has been $1.00/litre or more for the past 10 years. Greedy oil companies and gas stations. But when a barrel of oil was about $15 in the early 2000s, gas was $0.60/litre (I remember buying it for $0.58/litre at a station near work) and gas stations were disappearing for a few years, nobody seemed to care.

There are concert videos on YouTube from the Toronto shows. But I couldn't listen to them, as the band doesn't sound at its best. I ended up just relistening to the studio versions of the songs instead.

Final Hip concert is tomorrow.

Note that terminal brain cancer is always terminal but the affected person could still live for years maybe even a decade before succumbing to the disease. For example, Valerie Harper is still going strong after 7 years.

I`ve heard that Gord`s been responding well to treatment, so who knows? I don`t think we`ve seen the last of the Hip! Hang in there Gordie!

As usual, you are TERB's Anthony Crispino, always passing on the second hand news that is close but comically wrong!

She has primary lung cancer and a very rare secondary cancer that grows in the membrane between the brain and the skull. It is not "brain cancer" I it called https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meningeal_carcinomatosis

He has glioblastoma multiforme that is a primary brain tumour. Very aggressive and nobody survives it. 97% of the people are dead within 15 months.

Not really a big fan, like a couple of their songs. Don't understand all of the fuss tho. Some friends on FB have been posting MeMes saying Canada will be closed Saturday night because of the final hip show, I just don't get it.

I thought the exact same thing at the time. I was sure rooting for them! Perhaps the choice was a little too sophisticated for the turkey drumstick eaters there. Thanks for the post. BTW having just watched it again it sure does stand up well after all these years.

The Tragically Hip's appearance on Saturday Night Live way back in 1995.

Always loved "Grace Too", but they should have gone with "New Orleans is Sinking" for their introduction to an American audience.

Not sure that song would have gone over to well considering what happened with Katrina.
The SNL performance was ten years before Katrina happened. Also, The Hip were promoting their Day For Night CD at the time.
