To me, that makes little sense.
When you have Bud Selig running MLB-Making sense is not in his though process.

With respect to the advertising: WHY in God's name has no one publicly stood up and ridiculed the Jays brass for their new uniforms???? Or am I the only sane person that immediately started laughing at the unveiling because they are Tampa Bay Devil Rays shirts...instead of "Rays", it says "Jays", but in the exact same font as Tampa's. The bird logo looks good...but what people see is the front of the jersey...and that says "RAYS" to me!!

Early in this season, there was a telecast from KC, and the broadcast crew brought in ex-Jay Joe Carter to talk for an inning. They asked Joe what he thought of the new Jays uni's. He immediately started laughing, and said "Oh, you mean the Devil Rays jerseys??"....but within a couple of seconds his laughing stopped, and the subject was immediately changed...no doubt Pat Tabler made the "slitting my throat" motion to poor Joe who just told it as it was.

So I try and imagine what went on in the Boardroom when this design was presented. Obviously the top decision-maker - whether that be Ted Rogers, or someone else, liked it, otherwise it would not have been used. My question is, are the rest of the "decision-makers" that report to the head honcho soooo stuck to the top guy's butt crack that not one person pointed out the obvious? "Hey boss, this design is a direct copycat of Tampa's". Apparently not.

If this fiasco doesn;t tell you there are no brains amongst the Blue Jays "brain-trust" (pardon the pun) then I don;lt know what will.

Do you want to know the real reason the Jays did so bad this year? It was the bad karma created by the major changes to the uniform i.e. the color changes, the crappy new logo and dropping the word blue from their name.

Yeah, and the Blue birds played their best when they had the elastic band pants and pullover shirts. Remember how high the leg kicks of guys like Ward, Hanke and Steib used to be? That has to be the problem, the new pants don't let the pitchers kick their legs too high, so they don't throw with the same velocity and movement. If Rob Dibble or Nolan Ryan played for the 2004 Jays, they would tip over during their windup.

Lol. :D

Well, it looks like it *was* Gibbons, as opposed to someone with "lots of experience", at least at a major league level.
And Whitt caught on as well.

We'll see what the off-season brings. There should be a fair number of good young players taking their spots with the Jays over the next few years.

Still, a bit of an annus horribilis, what with Tom Cheek's illness, Cerutti's untimely death, and the worst season in two decades. Things can only get better, folks - we could be Montreal, and not have a team anymore. :(

I wonder if the fact he'll probably be the lowest paid manager in MLB make him more appealing to the top brass.

Where's Whitt gonna be?

"Bench coach".
:)
I love that tag.
There seem to me to be two reasons you make a guy a bench coach: to let him learn the ropes at the major league level, grooming him for more responsibilities later; or, to honour past achievement without making a guy responsible for anything (Zim).
I'd think, in Whitt's case, it's the former reason that applies.
