They raised property taxes every year but 2011. Mostly in line with inflation and more than real wage increases. That is prudent management.
Got to get the money to pay unionized workers.

Some/many people who are very capable of riding a bike or walking still take their car to the corner 7/11.

Aren't renters somewhat protected by rent control?
Landlords can apply to raise rent above the annually controlled increases for the following reasons:

  1. Their city taxes have gone up by what the province calls an "extraordinary" amount. (An increase in municipal taxes and charges is extraordinary if it is greater than the guideline plus 50% of the guideline )
  2. They have to pay for security for the first time, or the cost of security has gone up.
  3. They're paying for renovations.
So for 1., the current guideline is 2.5%. Plus 50% of guideline = 3.75%

The city raised property/infrastructure taxes by 7% in 2023. God knows what they will increase it to this year.

Toronto mayoral elections are controlled by public sector votes. They vote for who ever is going to give them a raise. Year after year and until the end of time, city taxes will increase and theres nothing anyone can do about it.

And that's why the problem with Socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Very bad for the car. Short trips wear down the battery. Not reaching operating temperature means that the oil, transmission fliud never gets hot enough to burn off the contaminants and condensation. The exhaust also does not burn off the condensation.

Good. It's well documented that Toronto's property taxes are low compared to other cities. It's about time. Toronto needs to suck it up and stop whining about having no $. Why should the rest of Ontario need to pay for their parsimony.

One of many sources

According to Zoocasa, the five cities with the lowest property tax rates in 2021 were all located within the Greater Toronto Area.
Toronto had the lowest property tax rate in 2021 at 0.61 per cent, followed by Markham at 0.63 per cent.

For comparison, Waterloo's tax rate is around 1.2% in 2023 IIRC.
Exactly. It would perhaps be political suicide for all the previous muni governments to endorse market value assessment method to raise the taxes that were needed as Toronto has never paid close to what they should have in property taxes. Its a problem that has been getting worse for 50 years.

Idling cars in traffic due to congestion caused by bike lanes doesn't make for good air quality.

I think the trucks are more of a concern compared to cars.
Also, they do not measure brake dust and rubber particles.

The rumour on the street is a 10% increase.
Remember during the mayoral race, Chow wouldn't answer the question about how she would pay for stuff or how much she would increase property taxes...yet people still voted for her without any clear answers.

No one I know has their pay increase by 10% in a year.
