I actually liked Steen when he was with the Leafs. Was disappointed then when they traded him. Kulemin was pretty much the younger version of him. They probably thought Kulemin would develop into what Steen is now.

Alright, enough with the mouth breathing. :biggrin1:

Kathleen, stop the madness of trading away picks. The Leafs austere trophy case tells that it just doesn't work. The shitpile left by the Peddie years was always going to take awhile to get rid of, I'm not that concerned if they don't make the playoffs. If they sign a workhorse defenseman to take the pressure off Phaneuf and they bring back Komarov, they'll be in much better shape. Morgan Riley needs time in the minors, he has the raw talent and the rink sense to be a front line defenseman but he needs time with the Marlies to hone his game. And I guarantee that if you put Clarkson on a line with Komarov, he won't play like he's chocking a chicken.

i agree the leafs are missing sandpaper in leo komarov. that is the difference between last years team and this year. the leafs are getting pushed around.

Where has Kessel been the last 7 games? If you're going to give a guy an $8 million a year contract he better show up at crunch time.

Is it seven or eight .... checking ...

Seven losses in a row. Damn.
It sure went off the rails after California. What the fuck happened on the left coast ?
I could be wrong but this does not look like a 'tuned the coach out' thing.

Not to put it all on Reimer but when soft goals get past the goalie, it makes it tough to do your job at the other end.
Then the goalie tightens up and it snowballs. It looks even worse then it is because it is late in the season.
Leafs had a good thing going with Bernier the number one and Reimer the occasionally playing back up.

Phaneuf did what he could on that puck lob goal. What the fuck was Gunnarsson doing lying on the ice ?
There was a Leafs forward right there as well, I think it was Kadri.
And that goal was a bit soft, but that happens. Tonight it was Bernier.

Oh and of course a losing streak brings out all the Johnny Know-it-alls.

...Burke couldn't get rid of Coliaicovo and Steen fast enough, what did we get in return?
The trade was made during Fletcher's interim period, so Burke gets a pass here. Remember Fletcher saying he couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a quality goal scorer in Lee Stempniak. No one told Fletch it wasn't 1993 anymore and they were operating in the salary cap era.

Two young players with lots of potential for a one season wonder. Hated it then and at the time Coliaicovo was considered the better player (if he could ever stop concussing himself by running into the boards.) Steen was thought more of as a defensively responsible third liner with a great pedigree. In hindsight, one of the five or ten worst Leaf trades ever. But could Steen have become the player he is now in St. Louis without the coaching of Hitchcock?

The last player that should be criticized is Dion Phaneuf. I was never a fan of his but he deserves praise for the way he's shouldered the heavy workload required of him all season. He is burned out and there's no one on the blue line that can step up.

7 loses in a row at a pivitol point in the season.
Falling out of playoff contention.
Somebody's gotta be accountable.
IF Carlyle is fired, and I think it's possible after tonight,
who's available or best to take over?

Leafs may back into the playoffs with just a few more wins as the other teams tied with them can't seem to win a game to save their life. No one seems to be playing like they want in the playoffs.

Devils could still sneak in. They have by far the easiest sch. Only Boston on final night everyone else is easily beatable.

Decent start tonight till Detroit took over in the second. Calgary coming up but they are playing good hockey this month 9-6 their best month of the season and nothing to lose, pressure will be intense on the Leafs to win this one as Boston comes in Wed. and they've been incredible lately.

Tim Leiweke is not a patient man. The consequences for another monumental Maple leaf slide like this will result in the dismissal of both Nonis and Carlyle. So far the Raps and TFC have started a cultural change (win more than lose) under new management...next up TML.

I tried posting that photo earlier, but getting some 'file too large message'. Don't get it. Pichard basically echos the game, the season, and posting a photo.

Nice photo by the way, and watching the playoffs with you would only be on one condition. You admit this looks better then that Habs photo.

In truth, my real fear if the Leafs don't make the playoffs, and the Habs continue to steamroll ahead is the return of Les Canadiens. I know he is out there... waiting... and oh shall he taunt. :(
What shirt, there was a shirt in that image you posted? I didn't see a shirt over those lovely breasts! If there was a shirt, it would be on long enough for me or you to worry about! LOL.

I think Nonis should be accountable. Last year the team was young, fast, and opened eyes against the Bruins. There was some great chemistry too. I'll be the first to admit, the addition of Clarkson and Bolland made me smile.
But clearly the absence of Kamarov, Fraser, and Brown hitting, Orr and McLaren enforcing, the energy of Grabovski and grit of MacArthur have hurt bad. Even keeping Kostka or Liles on would have helped the defense by allowing Phaneuf to log less time. Dion can be good, but RC has to realize, Phaneuf is not Pronger. Carlyle was spoiled in Anaheim with the likes of Pronger and Niedermayer.

None the less, I don't know if a change in coach is the answer. So far this year, such a move only worked in Philly. But like Boston and their slow start, Philly was due to wake up. I'm fine with RC staying, but Phaneuf needs to be used less, and the club has got to get meaner, and bigger next year without compromising speed. I'm so sick of seeing Raymond, Kadri and Gardiner knocked off pucks like rag dolls. Kardi was starting to play physical.. then he stopped. Montreal and Boston have small guy too, but their guys play like pitbulls. Especially Gallagher and Marchand.

Still have a regular season to be eliminated from before the 'next year' stuff starts. Lets hope for the best against the Wings.

I do not think Nonis nor Carlyle are in that much danger yet. Yes the slide out of the playoffs looks bad.
I think they have one more season.
I do understand that one or both could be fired as early as April 13th.

Look at the bright side.......Better draft pick!!!!!
Yes the cycle will continue, a history of great players with excellent potential including some fine Leaf captains with a familiar end. Another NHL franchise needs to be brought in to the GTA now more than ever despite Maple Leaf Hockey Inc's legal threats and wranglings.
