Leafs just need to hire some defencemen

I am not sure why the gm and coach have decided to play the entire season with no defencemen but perhaps they have seen that five forwards doesn't work

Yeah ... Where, pray tell, should the Leafs advertise to hire some D-men ?

e.g.
Toronto Star classifieds
Are you a defenceman ? Looking to make anywhere from $500,000 - millions in yearly seasonal work ?
Can you move the puck quickly and/or take the body efficiently ?

Benefits;
Get summers off.
Work approx. four or five hours a day.
Many beautiful women at your beck and call.

Amid all of the negativities surrounded the Leafs, I didn't know that Kessel is third among the nhl scoring leaders! Even Seguin of the Stars, who was part of the trade to get Kessel a few years ago, is in a top 10 of scoring leaders. Imagine what ifs...like Kessel and Seguin are both playing for the Leafs right now? LOL

Ex-boxing champ Bowe calls out Leafs’ Carlyle

Former heavyweight boxing champion Riddick Bowe isn’t happy with the Toronto Maple Leafs and their recent struggles. Yes, you heard that correctly.

Bowe is a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., but has been a diehard Leafs fan for decades and on Thursday he called out Leafs coach Randy Carlyle on Twitter.

I would answer that ad. Lol

My point is- the current guys either don't know how or won't play defence- phneuf (how he dares to wear the c given the proud history of other captains is amazing to me) must have tb given how many times he coughs up the puck. I feel for reimer- he plays basically by himself- the shots against is a telling stat- set the defencemen's salary based on shots against and maybe they will play with some heart

I love the leafs but boy oh boy they basically have two goalies and a few forwards (Kessels - thnk you for a great season) but that's not enough

Tonight I will take one for the team. *Sigh* - Go Habs Go!

As bad as it is right now, it could be worse. Detroit is still missing Datsyuk and Zetterberg. The CBJ are facing much harder teams then Toronto or Detroit over the next five game.
A lot can happen in a week, we can only hope for the best, a good start would be Montreal winning tonight.
Plus Columbus' schedule is brutal, 7 games in 10 days, the last week of April, 5 games in 7 days (with 2 back to backs). Hopefully that will wear them down to lose a few games.

Remember the Leafs were the only team that didn't make any move at the trade deadline ? If I'm not mistaken, I believe since then the Leafs have had the worse record (point wise) among all teams competing for playoff spots.

This team doesn't need to be rebuilt, a few additions would help. The Leafs are not making the playoffs, Phaneuf is exhausted and Bernier's groin is going to nag him.

The perennial problem the Leafs have always had, their player development is beyond awful. Burke couldn't get rid of Coliaicovo and Steen fast enough, what did we get in return? That's why I've been preaching that Gardiner and Riley should be given all the time they need. Maybe young players cannot mature within this organization, look at the scorn being heaped on Kadri.

Another "must win" game to-night. Will Bernier start in goal? Will Clarkson finally score another goal?

Wow -- a stunningly beautiful woman who knows (and obviously enjoys) our great game of hockey.

OMG... does it get any better than this? :)

Damn - I'm in the wrong part of town.

Alright, enough with the mouth breathing. :biggrin1:

Kathleen, stop the madness of trading away picks. The Leafs austere trophy case tells that it just doesn't work. The shitpile left by the Peddie years was always going to take awhile to get rid of, I'm not that concerned if they don't make the playoffs. If they sign a workhorse defenseman to take the pressure off Phaneuf and they bring back Komarov, they'll be in much better shape. Morgan Riley needs time in the minors, he has the raw talent and the rink sense to be a front line defenseman but he needs time with the Marlies to hone his game. And I guarantee that if you put Clarkson on a line with Komarov, he won't play like he's chocking a chicken.

Burke couldn't get rid of Coliaicovo and Steen fast enough.
And the fans and media were all in agreement.

Steen's production decreased on an annual basis to the point it was embarrassing. The number of games that CC was healthy was another embarrassment.

At the time, Captain Hindsight, the Leafs were criticized for drafting those two busts.

The 'Buds can definitely punch their ticket - I wonder who we'll get in the first round ? Would love to beat the Senaturds again, but they suck this year and won't make it. Montreal maybe, and their poutine nation fans.
only thing you can count on this team to do ..... is disappoint their fans.

Hoo boy... They didn't play that bad, but they didn't do much good either. For what it's worth, Clarkson was stronger in the third but that's the least of the problems here.

Flyers are on quite a run, know how to shut it down and make the most of their opportunities. Two powerplay faceoff wins, two goals. One ill advised breakout pass into the middle by JVR, bounces straight to Giroux of all guys, game over. Mason wasn't great, didn't have to be.

Philadelphia is well coached, the Leafs aint. Fourth Flyer goal off a lob, no one on defense has a clue what to do, who to cover. But Simmonds has been chasing the puck like a mad dog all year long - the kind of get it done, second effort opportunist Leafs just don't have.

Again, for what it's worth, I think Carlyle has been exposed in Toronto. A brilliant defensive strategist when he had Nedemyer and Pronger to throw out all night long and bring a Stanley Cup to Aneheim, here it's clear he has no system and no answers. Sure the players are not as good, but seven straight losses when it counts most? The warts and defensive ineptitude were clear from the start of the season but he just hasn't been able to adjust with what he has. Playoffs approach, good teams tighten up and goals are always harder to come by. Really not surprising that the one dimensional Leafs are faltering when it counts most.
