I'm not sure I get the rush to trade Nazem Kadri.
It is fairly typical of Maple Leafs fans, they (we) tend to eat our young players.
And then when they go those same fans lament them leaving.

As long as the return for Kadri was somewhat decent I wouldn't lament in the least. He might have those nifty mitts but he's quite the selfish bonehead. Running the Minnesota goalie was a malicious act. He takes stupid and unnecessary penalties like tonight. Rather than make a pass for a higher percentage shot...he will take the shot instead cause he's selfish. Not sure if he's trying to get those big bucks in the next contract but in my books that's not going to cut it. I used to think the same way about Kessel a bit but in a game earlier this year he was on a two on one with the empty net and could have easily got the goal but passed it and the other leaf who escapes my memory got the goal. Quite an unselfish act for a guy who probably feels the need to prove his hefty contract to his critics.

So why not give Nazem the opportunity to grow as Phil has (or was Phil ever selfish?)

Well I don't think I said he has to be traded or even should be. Plus my opinion is worth notta lotta except for being an opinion. Carlyle's and Nonis' opinions on the other hand do. So if they keep him, who am I to judge. I just wouldn't be upset in the least. Like shack said, he's a punk and I'm not a big fan of his. As for Kessel being selfish, not sure but it was the impression I had.

I'm not saying you did say he has to be/should be traded, but some Leafs fans seem to be pounding on that drum.

Regarding Phil, I think he was just overwhelmed with the lack of talent on the Toronto team when he got here, and perhaps appeared to play selfishly in order to try and make something happen. It's hard to fly with the eagles when you're surrounded by turkeys, as Kessel was when he arrived in Toronto.

Oh why do I bet the leafs?
Don't feel bad, so many must have, including our Iron man :D. What a stinker, last night game... I always believe the Leafs play well against a good team and stink when it comes to play against a lower standing team, proved true again and again. Truly good team ALWAYS bring their A-game no matter the opposition. Leafs still have a lot to learn and grow up to be a contender, that's the painful truth, do not let the standing fools you!

That was a letdown. :(

On the bright side Kadri scored in his return.
Holland nets his first as a Leaf.

Washington in on Saturday.

Go Leafs !

I still believe that Reimer is being unfairly underused.

I didn't check the schedule but it wouldn't surprise me if Bernier gets 3 out of the next 4 starts regardless of whether Reimer wins.

Perhaps Carlyle sees the high percentage of rebounds allowed and puck handling as areas of concern in Reimer vs Bernier ?

A quick count showed Leafs 8-2 against teams with sub 500 records. How would you call that "stink" ? They have been able to take advantage of playing against the bad teams and still have a respectable record with all the key injuries so far.

I agree Bernier looks more polished but bottom line stats (W/L, GAA, SV%) I don't think think there's much to choose. BTW, I didn't look up the exact stats, just going by my recollections.

I think Bernier has let in more softies and at crucial times.

Indeed it was. But as you noted, Holland and Kadri were bright spots. Plus due credit to Nashville, they just came off blanking the Wings with that same goalie.

I'd have liked to see Reimer playing the Preds, so that Grabs ( who you know will be playing extra hard ) and OV who is on terror right now, would have somewhat of an unfamiliar goalie in Bernier. I'm guessing Carlyle would start Reimer Sat. but then again, who knows?

At least one positive is Toronto catches Washington on the 2nd half of a back to back. Would be nice if the Habs exhaust them tonight.
Good point Kathleen, Montreal beat the Caps 3-2 and having to travel overnight the leafs should have the edge. I will again bet on the leafs tonight.

I was surprised Reimer won the shootout. He almost always loses in the shootout format.
Think that was his second career shootout win versus six career loses in shootout. He looked really stoked when he won the damn thing.

Washington was going high on him all night since that is what the book on Reimer says you should do; but, he kept them in the game.

Ovechkin looked sensational tonight. He seems to be going back to the player he was from 2005 to 2010 after passively sleepwalking through the last few seasons.
He looks like the best player in the league right now.

What does Reimer have to do to get equal playing time?

Better winning %age, better save %age, slightly worse GAA. I wouldn't be surprised if Bernier got the next two starts.

Bernier seems to be the one that they have big future plans for that's for sure.
He seems to get preferencial treatment.

There are 3 things the Leafs don't like about Reimer, poor glove hand, poor rebound control and poor puck handling ability; but, despite all this he does seem to be much better this year at keeping the puck out of the net.
But, on some level I don't think the Leafs will ever forgive him for blowing a 4 - 1 lead in the third period of game seven last year against the Bruins.

Remember the shoot outs last year, it was scary to go into a shoot out, but this year the Buds are 3-1. It sure makes a difference.
