Why does the team need a number one center ? You cannot be serious. Why does this team "desperately need" a "true number one center"? They're third in the conference in scoring without one.
How is Brassard "a true number one center"? He may develop into one, but he's a long way from Getzlaf, at this point.
IMO, adding Getzlaf doesn't get them by Boston, say, in the playoffs, unless they were gonna get there without him - it will come down to goaltending, with this team. I know you can say that about pretty much anyone, but the Leafs seem to be particularly volatile in the crease - can Reimer be a "true number one"? Can Gustavsson?? That seems to me to be the first question this team has to answer, and the issue still looks very much in doubt. If the answer is "no", Getzlaf won't help. If it's "yes", how much does adding a Getzlaf cost?
Is this guy serious ?
Surely you jest.
The Leafs need a number one playmaking center to play with Kessel.
They need a number one center because if they do not have one, they are never going to get anywhere.
Does adding Getzlaf get the Leafs past the first round ? Well without Getzlaf, or some other big center, the Leafs definitely do not advance or it is a whole lot more difficult without then it would with the number center.
As well as they have played without a true number center, they would be that much better with that center. With that center, they would likely be higher in the standings now. Maybe at the end of the season they would be sixth and get the weak sister division winner of Washington or Florida.
They need a number one center because they would be that much better.
I truly believe that if a center like Getzlaf was playing at least his fourth or fifth game with the Leafs, they would have won last night ... and not by just one goal.
Big, true, number one center means ...
Blue will roll !
