Jose Bautista is turning the screws on AA with his bargaining stance.

He says, once the arbitration hearing is over on Monday, that's it, he's going straight to free agency because he won't negotiate on a new contract once spring training begins because he wants to focus only on baseball.

So, if a multi year extension does'nt get done, he could get traded at the trade deadline if the Jays fear losing him to unrestricted free agency because they can't compete with some of the deep pockets out there.

Jose must be expecting another big year. I doubt he can repeat what he did last year. He certainly deserves a lot more money but I wouldn't want to give him a multi year contract based solely on last years performance. It will be interesting how this plays out.

Thank goodness, we will be paying him in cheaper USD's instead of the more valuable CAD's.

2 more days until the pitchers show up for Spring training. Yay.

Just heard Bautista and Jays are in negotiations. Arbitration hearing postponed until Friday.

I really hope they can agree a long-term deal.

At this point I'm optimistic. Sounds like both parties are interested and made sure they are giving themselves lots of time to do it. Just hope they don't drag it out to the last second.

Bautista at something like 4 yrs - 50 million is reasonable if he can stay in the .260 / 30 / 100 range.
But we do not want another Wells or Rios sitting out there taking up 20% of the payroll.

I would much prefer us to accept the arbitration deal and see if Jose can do it back to back seasons.

According to ESPN, the Jays and Bautista are closing in on a 5 year 65 million deal which works out to 13 million per season.
AA wanted to use the 5 year 62 million dollar deal that Dan Uggla signed with Atlanta Braves as comparable type contract he'd be comfortable giving to Bautista.
Hope he's not a 1 year wonder because lately the Jays have been getting burned by a lot of guys who sign long to deals and then under perform.

Move(s) by the Jays

As well as signing Bautista for 5 years the Jays also acquired the good, but aging, bat of Scott Podsednik. I think they said he batted .294 last year and they signed him to a minor league contract.

reports have Jose Bautista signed @ 5 yrs 65,000,000. One report indicates there could be an option for a 6th year @ 13,000,000.
Not bad for a player with 1 good year in the books!

Thank you for your valuable input.

Why don't you post in topics that you have an interest in instead of just insulting others?
