Well. He kind of made it redundant in my case. Along with others. I remember watching a David St. Hubbins interview (Spinal Tap) where he was talking about Yngwei J Malmsteen. First he wanted to thank him for putting the J in the name so's people wouldn't confuse him with all the other Yngwei Malmsteens out there.
Then he said, after watching him play he said "what's the point? I might as well just burn my guitar. or pour varnish over it and turn it into a coffee table.
The J... that is awesome.

Triumph was my first concert. Yngwie was the opener on his Trilogy tour. I got earful that night.

Since we're doing rock threads, why don't we have one for the top 10 American Rock Albums? Everyone nominate their favourite(s) and I'll set up a new thread with a poll for the 10 most nominated and we'll vote and rank them??

So I'll start the ball rolling. My noms:

1. "Doolittle" The Pixies.

2. "American Beauty" The Grateful Dead.

3. "For Everyman" Jackson Browne

4. "The River" Bruce Springsteen.
None of those...

ZZ TOP Rio Grande Mud
Van Halen 1
Van Halen 1984
Van Halen Mean Street
Van Halen A different kind of truth
Captain Beefheart Clear Spot
Captain Beefheart Safe as milk
Montrose Montrose
Jimi Hendrix Are you experienced
Lynrd Skynrd Second Helping
The Cars
Boston
Couldn't limit it to 10
Had to include the last two

I do like other genres of music in spite of this list. But these albums just kill.
Are you experienced and Montrose for sure...

In no particular order:

Born To Run---Bruuuce
Bat Out of Hell---Meat Loaf
Blood On the Tracks---Dylan
Blonde On Blonde---Dylan
After the Goldrush---Neil (Young)
The Band---The Band
Countdown to Ecstasy/Pretzel Logic---Steely Dan (Tie. I couldn't make a choice)
Tapestry---Carol King
Desperado---Eagles
At Fillmore East---Allman Brothers
the best ever album coming out of the US is Pet Sound by the Beach Boys.

But after yeah agree with you Born to run tops them all. Thunder road being one of my favourite song all time.

then i would say Ten by Pearl Jam and The Band closely behind.

in a category of its own I would say Cash's Folsom Prison to be the most important album ever released in the US.

great list…. I totally blanked on Boston. I wore my cassette out and had to re-dub it from a friend… eventually bought the cd.

I have one head scratcher on you left list. I know you’d think it would be Captain Beefheart’s safe as Milk…. But it is actually VH’s different kind of truth. Please explain.
I gave Boston an honorable mention but the more I think about it, I think it deserves to be in the top 10. While the A side is clearly superior to the B side, the B side is still very listenable. I will add it and remove Chicago Transit Authority album.

How about any one of Aerosmith’s first four albums...
You can make an argument for including Toys In The Attic but for me it doesn't have the wow factor outside its big 2 or 3 tracks.

Mean Street is actually on the VH album called Fair Warning. Great album indeed! One of my favorite albums to listen to while I drive around mongering in Ottawa. It sure pumps me up.
Sinners Swing!

Thank you kindly.

Neil recorded it in the U.S. and is an American citizen and all the other musicians were American (I believe). Neil is God and the universe is his residence. ;)
Just no, ehh!

Neil roomed with my late brother in law in some walk up off yorkville avenue in 65, ehh. They were both into folk music and weed, ehh. So yer not saying that Neil Young is some kinda Merkan. Just cos Neil Young went 'n worked down across de border afterwudz. Still don't change he's Knajan.
