Since we're doing rock threads, why don't we have one for the top 10 American Rock Albums? Everyone nominate their favourite(s) and I'll set up a new thread with a poll for the 10 most nominated and we'll vote and rank them??

So I'll start the ball rolling. My noms:

1. "Doolittle" The Pixies.

2. "American Beauty" The Grateful Dead.

3. "For Everyman" Jackson Browne

4. "The River" Bruce Springsteen.

great list…. I totally blanked on Boston. I wore my cassette out and had to re-dub it from a friend… eventually bought the cd.

I have one head scratcher on you left list. I know you’d think it would be Captain Beefheart’s safe as Milk…. But it is actually VH’s different kind of truth. Please explain.

The whole album just blew me away. And this was when they were at geezer age. What's not to like?

I like it actually…. Eddies playing was never better. Dave’s singing was great. It just didn’t gel for me. Although Tattoo is highly under rated, probably because of the video…. It’s a great song.

Honestly, while VH is one of my all time fav’s… I always found the song writing immature. But they started as a party band so 🤷‍♂️

Another great list…. But Neil is not eligible in this one. And Tapestry…. Good call. I would not thought of that.

Thank you kindly.

Neil recorded it in the U.S. and is an American citizen and all the other musicians were American (I believe). Neil is God and the universe is his residence. ;)

Well, as you say. Eddie's playing was never better. Didn't think anyone could improve so much 30 years into it, but he did. I like Tattoo and Jump. But most people probably don't. I thought their writing could be pretty thoughtful. To me anyway. I'll wait is kind of plaintive. Push comes to shove is tasty. Secrets, off the Diver Down album is pretty sweet.
I read a quote from JJ Cale. He said during the 80's he pretty much stayed at home, mowed the lawn and listened to Van Halen.

Eddie was the reason I picked up a guitar. He is also the reason I put it back down.

Well. He kind of made it redundant in my case. Along with others. I remember watching a David St. Hubbins interview (Spinal Tap) where he was talking about Yngwei J Malmsteen. First he wanted to thank him for putting the J in the name so's people wouldn't confuse him with all the other Yngwei Malmsteens out there.
Then he said, after watching him play he said "what's the point? I might as well just burn my guitar. or pour varnish over it and turn it into a coffee table.

Nice list.
Captain Beefheart, after several hours of drunken debate, will be categorized as Cajun Blues.
