Certainly not a regular routine for me but I stopped off at a Tim's location for lunch today. It was either Wendy's, Popeye's or Tim's so I chose the latter. Ordered a chicken salad sandwich combo toasted on whole wheat with a tea and a donut. The cashier (this extremely annoying EI lady) proceeded to tell me they don't toast the bread for cold sandwiches anymore. So I ask why is that? Her answer was that it's not good for your stomach and that all Tim Horton's locations have this policy since the beginning of the year. I'm dumbfounded at this point and ask her if she's serious. She says she is. So I'm like this is ludicrous and that I'm going to lodge a complaint. That logic is just foolish because a) by the time you eat the sandwich the bread is lukewarm at most and b) drinking a piping hot coffee or tea with a cold sandwich would have a worse affect, no? So my complaining finally got her to relent and have the sandwich preparer toast the bread.

So as I'm leaving I end up convincing myself she was bullshitting me. It was a location specific policy so as to speed up lunch time traffic and serve more customers. Bottom line is I will be letting Tim Horton's head office know about this incident.

Tim's has really started to suffer every since they got away from doing what they do best - brewing coffee and making donuts. Now that they're trying to compete with McDonald's and Starbucks and any other fast food breakfast chain, they've let their service and quality slip.
I've never heard about the not toasting bread policy because they always ask if I want it toasted or not where I happen to go. My issue is that they're so disorganized at the location I mostly visit that it's much easier to walk down the street to the Coffee Time ... at least I know they're listening when I put in my order. I can't count the number of times I've left only to discover they've screwed up my order in some form. And then its not worth the hassle to go back into the line to get it fixed.
I was in Quebec last summer when they were rolling out the Dark Roast - it was introduced there first because Quebecers lover their dark roast more than any other (seriously, that is what I was told!) Anyway, it was good and I enjoyed it... and the service at the Timmies near my hotel was fantastic. When they rolled out the Dark Roast here in Toronto, it didn't taste the same... and I've sampled it at several locations. It always tastes burnt.
Lately, I've found myself going to McDonald's more and more.. I even bought a huge tin of their coffee to try at home in my home brew and I'm finding it is equal if not better than Tims. Someone at work told me that the person/company that Tim's had sourcing their coffee is now doing it for McDonald's which is why they've closed the gap on Tims in the coffee wars.

Now about that Popeye's..... :)

That is a reasonable request and companies like Tim Hortons should put the customer first.

The sacred name of "Timmies" is becoming tarnished as they continue to lose customers due to inferior products and poor customer service.

They are getting annoying. First the dutchie, then the walnut crunch. Then they come out with grilled paninis, and promptly lose the ham and cheese on multigrain. Can't get a good banana nut muffin anymore. Half the time the local stores don't have peanut butter cookies, but rather white macadamia nut.

losing customers to who?............poor custmer service..you drive to the window, order what you want, drive to the next window, pay and drive away with what you order.happens thousands of tines a day...but the OP can find the time to whine about a sandwich not toasted....................just ask the server to toast it, and she will..........but no, tough guy wants to write a letter....sheesh

Tim's is starting to suffer from being too big and too busy.
First off.... Good fucking luck getting served inside a location. If you're at afdrive thru window you're OK. If your in the store you're fucked......
Second.... There's so much inconsistency from location to location. Some r great some r terrible. .
Third.... They pay and treat their employees like shit so how r the employees supposed to give a fuck about anything.
Fourth..... Half their employees can't speak English...

Never liked Timmies after a few tries. Although it varies from location to location, their sit in cafes are generally much more stressful and messier than Starbucks' and McD's. Inconsistent service, and worst not every one has free WiFi. Not tried their latest dark roast coz I stop patronizing but their normal brew coffee is way too thin, and tastes awful. I always wonder why always long Qs. No way I'm going back. Ever. Would rather make my own instant coffee.

there's absolutely no need to call the original poster a tough guy or a crybaby. everyone here has, i'm sure, at some point, been let down by some service or other, and was incited to lodge an official complaint. the poster was obviously still pretty angry while writing the post, so it's also possible that, in the meantime, he's calmed himself down, and has forgotten the whole thing.
i agree that tim horton's employees are treated like garbage by their employer, and are thus less likely to go out of their way to ensure customer satisfaction. if you want good service, go to starbucks.
no, i'm not a hipster. i'm just fine with aging a premium for my coffee if it ensures the service will be top notch.

Great Indies Cafes are like Merc/ BMWs - Great overall experience
Starbucks is like Lexus. Maybe boring but friendly, reliable and good!
McD like Camry/Accord. Reliable.

Ah, Timmies that I love late night and wish was in Arizona.

But sometimes they run out of chili at 3am. Forgot what sandwich I have with it something and chili was on the menu.

I am at a conference all week in Denver (Hyatt Regency by Convention Center) and for a late night snack had GRILLED PANINI at a 24 hour place in the hotel which I see Timmies now has. I didn't even know what a panini was but was great.

When they were bought by Burger King had hoped they would expand more in the U.S.

Denver had snow 2 days ago - haven't seen snow for years! And why I travel to Toronto/Hamilton/Niagara in Summer not winter!

This summer a friend recommended I try McDs coffee. Liked it and been going there every morning since. The buy nine coffees and the 10th is free doesn't hurt either.

Haven't tried the Dark Roast at Tims.
