You must be getting your idea of minorities from hollywood. Indian families have many of the same obstacles black families do. But please continue to push racist bullshit theories. It fits the narrative around here.
What Asians and Indians in Hollywood? Almost every famous politician, athlete, actor etc.... are almost all White or Black.

Indians same obstacles as Black? Definitely not. You see tons of Indian kids doing well in school and have good jobs.

Yet even decades ago, why is it that East Asian people never seemed to get racially biased against?
Why do you talk about things that you know nothing about? From about the 1880's to 1920's, Chinese immigrants had to pay a head tax to come to Canada. That tax was put in place specifically to discourage immigration. From about the early 1920's to the late 1940's they were effectively banned from immigrating to Canada. It took almost 70 years for Harper to apologize for those actions and to offer compensation.

I wasn't meaning going back 100 years.

But since you bring it up, no doubt there were disparities.

And what happened after that? I never heard about Asians being pigeon holed as minorities to oppress, nor have they ever done big protests. And it's not like cops cracked down on Asians beating them up or patrolling Chinatown. Never heard anything about that 50 years ago or now.

As I said before, US/Canada culture has hardly any Asians flaunted in the media as rich celebrities, so it's not like there were rich famous people on TV to look up to.

Even in 2017, there's hardly any on TV. And out of the main sports in North America, or singers etc..... how many are hugely popular? Virtually zero worth bragging about.

So you tell me why Asians have done pretty well, and no cops (with their stereotyped racist antics) hassle Asians? Also, if you are going to bring up 100 year old history (and even include modern day), many Asians immigrating to Canada even have a disadvantage of crappy English/French skills. So right off the bat there's a language issue to overcome.

You said that "East Asian people never seemed to get racially biased against", which is just wrong. The 1940's was a long time ago, but there could be people still alive that lived through that period. Do you also think that people treated Chinese people any different once the unfair immigration practices stopped?

The time period is irrelevant to this thread because discrimination and racism will always be with us. Just because you have not heard of racist incidents or protests involving Asians does not mean there are zero. How about the SARS outbreak from the "distant past" of the early 2000's where there was increased racism towards the Chinese in Toronto. Some idiots out there thought every Chinese person they came across were carriers. Some of my Canadian born Chinese friends were told to go back to China even though they never set foot there.

How about that story from "centuries ago" about the Dirty Chinese Restaurant video game? I do think that protesting it was largely a waste of time, but that does not make the content acceptable.

Once again, the reason to protest in public like the players did is to get the sleeping masses to pay more attention to social issues. Their protest obviously worked otherwise you wouldn't still be talking about it.

Who knows. I wasn't alive in the 1940s.

Regardless of how well or crappy Asians have been treated in the past 100 years, it doesn't really matter because Asians have done great. Students seem to do pretty good in school, good jobs, and no famous people to look up to. Who's the most famous? Bruce Lee from 40 years ago? Yao Ming? Korean guy who did Gangnam Style. hardly any Asian people in the headlines and scooping up Academy Awards.

It comes down to just doing your own thing and working hard. And as time passes, things work out no matter how many head taxes there were, WWII immigration and discrimination debacles and 2017 chop socky Dirty Chinese Restaurant games there are.

Let's face it, Asian people love video games. And how many humongous racial protests were there for the game. Not too many. it came and went in one day's worth of news.

And that's the point I'm trying to make. If a group of people don't dick around, regardless of oppressive mindsets from ages ago, things improve and others won't pigeon hole you as a minority to pick on.

A good example is Singapore.... from the Singapore thread someone made tonight. If this was 50 years ago, Singapore was basically a crude tiny little piece of land not worth mentioning. No different than some stereotyped Oriental place with lowly educated people and crappy wooden huts and whatnot.

Fast forward and it's a bustling commerce powerhouse. Don't dick around and things can improve.

Now what they could have done is just hum along and fast forward to 2017 it would be a lowly little place. It's the opposite. The avg person in Singapore probably makes $100k

None of us were alive in the 1940's, but it's sad that you're not aware of things going on in 2017.

Sorry, but Singapore is not a good example. Singapore is basically a series of islands with a population of barely 6 million consisting mainly of Chinese. The US is over 300 million people consisting mainly of Whites and is very multicultural. Further, they are vastly different politically. Singapore has a lot of restrictions on the press and civil liberties. It barely qualifies as a democracy when you compare it to the US. Thinking that "if Singapore can do it, why can't the US?" does not make sense since you would be ignoring a whole lot of factors. Even if the US wanted to change its political system to match Singapore, how would it enforce that law over such a big territory and population?

I'm not disputing the need for people to work hard. On the other hand, that does not magically cause things to improve or excuse unfair treatment either in the past or today.

Like it or not, Black people are targeted more than any other race in the US. That is definitely a reason to protest whether you like it or not. I'm sure if Whites, Chinese or any other ethnic group were targeted as much they would also protest.

As usual, your "examples" are not based on reality. Just your barely casual observations and brush-offs.

Black people are target more. And there's probably good reason for that.

Nobody (including yourself) has explained why other minorities don't get harrassed as much (if at all in present day) by cops despite also being minorities as well.

As I said before, don't act dumb and things will improve.

I'll give you one good example as to why Blacks (in the US at least) have trouble. Now you can agree, disagree or partially agree, but here is one example I doubt anyone on this board will be able to counter....

Good jobs typically require good education, AND more importantly a certain level of professionalism. That goes for the way you act, write, interview you name it. Anyon can fake a good resume, but landing a decent job takes in-person interviews with let's say 3 people.

And everyone knows a portion of the Black population has that ghetto way of talking and displaying themselves. And don't play dumb, you know what I mean.

Like it or not, very few good paying jobs, corporations, lawyers whatever associate with hiring people who act this way. They may have paper qualifications just as good as the stack of resumes on the HR desk, but when it comes to "acting the part".... I remember saying this in some other thread..... that's what helps lead to success in life. I don't care if someone is genuinely professional sounding or totally faking it at work, but acts like an ass at home. Doesn't matter.

Act the part and people will hire you for better jobs. That leads to more money and not dicking around with crappy jobs. Every office I've work at has been a mix of people. And guess what? All the Black people I've worked with have never had that ghetto kind of yammering. They act just as well as everyone else in the office. Big companies don't like extremes. They like the company to hum along in a smooth way. And the best way for that to happen is to hire qualified people who also act and portray themselves in a normal way which is safe territory everyone can live with. It might be bland, but it works.

Hey, I would love it if I could go to work wearing sweat pants and cussing and talking boob jokes with buddies. But you can't do that in environments like this. If you want that nice office job, you got to conform to a minimum standard of corporate life. Same goes for anything else that pays decent... medical jobs, lawyers, engineering, that dentist that wants to yank out your rotten tooth etc....

As I said, not hard to do. Heck, even foreigners with broken English can land decent jobs, so it shows hiring managers aren't even looking for perfect English. They just want someone who acts decent and looks like can get along with coworkers.

They should look at themselves in the mirror as to what kind of image to portray vs. athletes in other sports.
These players are all very lucky to get where they are, and are willing to risk their positions to leverage their career playing a relatively meaningless game to try and make a difference for something that affects them, but to a greater degree people who aren't as fortunate as they are. I'm sure they feel pretty damn fine about that when they look in the mirror.

The idea that anyone could think this issue is about the players first, "everyone else second," is amazing to me. They're literally doing the exact opposite of that, risking some of the sweetest jobs in imagination to make a difference. The incredible tone of, "These stupid mandingos need to shut up and get back to fighting for our entertainment" is hideous.

Lots of other minorities get harassed quite a bit, but no minority in America today has such a rich and lengthy history of being treated as slaves and non-humans. That's what this entire issue is about.

That is exactly the point of these protests and for BLM. They are trying to shed light that they are targeted more than any other group by police. Right or wrong, the perception is that there are too many incidents where police are wrongfully doing so. The reasons blacks are being targeted more are irrelevant where innocent people are involved. Remember Treyvon Martin? This issue is a whole lot more than don't act dumb and the police won't target or shoot you.

No doubt.

Dirty Harry cops are awful. As I've said many times in this forum, bad cops and the whole buddy buddy system they do is absurd. A cop can kill an innocent bystander and every cop nearby stands there like a moron and the police chief later that day answering questions defends his actions.

Absolutely wrong.

But, what will improve the entire Black/cop cat and mouse game of stupidity where Black's do dumb things and cops do dumb things would decrease (IMO) if the Black community smartened up, and tried to move up the ladder like every other minority over the decades. What happens is the overall economic status improves within a group, things improve, crime is cut down and guess what? Cops will cut down getting pissed off and patrolling their neighbourhoods.

As I said in the post, nice paying jobs and big companies don't hire people who speak ghetto. You know it. I know it. Clean up the mannerisms and guess what? More companies will hire.

Do you work in an office? A medical building? Something similar? How many people work there acting like they grew up watching rap videos? Here's the answer. Zero. That's the point I'm making for improving and being more attractive for hire.... = more $$$.

It's not that 1% of Dirty Harry cops doing dumb shit making the Black population kept down. It's the Black community keeping themselves down. Even if every policemen is 100% clean, law abiding and helps society, things won't change for the Black community because most companies won't hire anyone (doesn't matter on race) who acts ghetto-ey. Excluding athletes, singers and people being their own boss, when it comes to jobs where people work for a boss, it's actually very easy. The better the job, the more clean cut and professional you have to act. The shittier the job, the less professional you have to act. And if someone really acts ghetto, the best job someone will offer is probably a fast food or general labourer job. Or at best some kind of blue collar job, or car mechanic job where it's most all guys who can joke around like guys and nobody will care.

And you know that. Me too.

It's not like Asians and Indians are where they are by pure luck. They immigrated to western countries, have historically never got into crime and drugs, and seemingly have always strived to be decent in school and get good jobs.

No famous celebrities to look up to. Most politicians are white guys, most cops (especially decades back) are white, you name it.

Asians and Indian people don't seem to give a shit about western countries being mostly run and promoted with white people.

And guess what? Stay out of trouble, and cops don't hassle. Chinatown has always been a pretty densely populated area, and also pretty scuzzy. Since day one it's been like this. Yet, how often have the police been asked to keep an eye patrolling the area and hassling people in the area?

Never.

All I'm saying is stay out of the spotlight of stupidity and cops will hassle you less.

It's like speeding. Go the speed limit or just a bit over and no cop will waste his time pulling you over. Go 40 km over the limit and that hidden cop car on the side now has a reason to chase you down.

Don't get me wrong, some cops are dicks and will give you a ticket going 70 km in a 60 km zone. But 99% of the time, they will focus on the people who do worse... like the guy zipping at 100 km in a 60 km zone.

And how many of those "good reasons" have to do with the impact of slavery on destroying family instilled values?

As I said, African immigrants seem to have similar success stories to other immigrants but it is undeniable that despite having similar cultural values as south or east Asian immigrants, African immigrants do have difficulties.

p.s. It is idiotic to say that asian and south asian immigrants don't face systemic discrimination in the states.

The protest is about Dirty Harry cops as you put it. There's no reason to protest against the cops that follow the rules or don't target innocent people. I do work in an office with thousands of other people. I don't know how the other people behave nor do you. We would never know how they behave or how they got the job in the first place. We can certainly make assumptions, but that's all they are. Further, how Blacks behave in an office environment has nothing to do with what we're talking about at all.

Again, your assumptions about a particular neighborhood specifically Chinatown are laughable. Use whatever little thinking skills you have and ask yourself if it make sense that police have never patrolled that area.

All that I'm saying (and a number of people including BLM) is that some people are staying out of the spotlight yet are still being targeted by the police. Maybe what we should do is have the police hassle your race for no good reason for a full year and see what the reaction is? Think the response will just be "I guess we should stop dicking around?"

Cops won't hassle my race.

My country of origin of immigrants (everyone in North America comes from immigrants at some point unless you are Native). My people do pretty well, always have, and aren't the ones fighting for jobs or getting Dirty Harry cops on our backs.

Ah, so you work in a large office too. Guess what? I bet zero people talk ghetto.

The reason why some cops go ape shit against Blacks is because that group seems to cause the most trouble. So they have to focus attention on those neighbourhoods and at some point some cops can't take it any more and go overboard.

It's not a widespread race issue because other minorities don't get the same treatment where cops are going Rambo on the nearest Korean or Pakistani guy. And you know it.

I can't repeat myself enough, and frankly I've just giving some opinions on how a certain group of people can improve themselves. And in time, they can perhaps reach the level of status, money and jobs like other minorities. And if you don't want to agree, that's fine. I guess you have better answers.

I'm not the one complaining about cops or a fair shake at life. I did the whole normal pathway of life.... do your best at school, don't do drugs or crime, go to university, get saddled with a student loan that took ages to pay off, get a job, then go get a mortgage and car loan. That's a typical pathway in western countries. And not a hard one to follow as million of students do the same whether they are silver spooned brats or needing a student loan because the parents are broke.

If I was that selfish, I'd want every other ethnicity to do bad, so that guys in my shoes would have the pick of the litter for all the best stuff. That's not what I want.

All I want is a society where everyone cuts down on stupid shit and just leads a normal life, where people hum along and there's little crime from asshead citizens and asshead Dirty Harrys.

If it wasn't obvious, I was asking you to put yourself in someone else's shoes just for a second. What you are saying is if you or your race were frequently stopped or even shot for no good reason by the cops, you would not say anything? What if it was a close friend, family member, or how about your kids? Would you still just sit at home and bitch about a 1 minute interruption to your precious football game? That's not an unrealistic example because it has happened many times in the US and that's the reason for the 2 minute silent protest during the game.

Once again, you are unsuccessfully trying to re-direct this issue by saying things that have no basis in reality. Repeating dumb statements doesn't make them right. The fact that a particular group can improve themselves has absolutely nothing to do with this either. It seems that some people that are trying to improve themselves yet are being targeted by the cops.

All you want is a society where everyone leads a normal life? Yeah, I don't think so. You just don't want to be interrupted for less than a minute from your precious football game. Might want to re-evaluate your priorities if football has this much meaning in your life.

You are getting all caught up in the media. The Dirty Harry cops being asses to people are a small minority.

They aren't the ones keeping an entire race down for decades.

Facts show that crime and stupidity decrease when economics improve. Better education, better jobs, less crime = less reason for cops to get in people's faces.

And not one person has been able to answer this.... I'll wait for your response..... if cops are so racist, how is it that Asian and Indian people don't get the same kinds of harrassment? Why is it that all the Crime Stopper mugshots are 99% White and Black people?

So gimme a break.

Even if every cop became a saint, it would not lead to better economic standing for Black people because as I said very few companies would hire for good jobs people who speak ghetto. And this example line here assumes every cop morphs into a saint which they won't. So you got to live in reality that there's going to be some cops who go nuts because their day to day beat cop job has pissed them off to no return. Or they are inherently racist from the start. It sucks, but there's also lazy asses or criminals who seem like asses from day one too. So those are a wash.

You don't see a white cop go ape shit on Asians and Indians do you? Exactly, you don't.

The best way to get cops off your back and have them stop patrolling the neighbourhoods 24/7 is to give them less reason to. Just like all the Asian/Indian areas. You don't see Whitey cracking skulls of Wong and Singh do you? They leave them alone.

Get a better education, get better jobs by "acting the part" and talking like a normal dude to win those job interviews. Every other race can do it. Fuck, half the Asian/Indian immigrants have broken English. And they still can land decent jobs. Get some decent qualifications, do decent in interviews and earn those better jobs. More money, move out of the crappy parts of town and no cops will bother driving their car in your new neighbourhood.

You are getting all caught up with your own BS. None of what you have said is factual and you choose to ignore actual data or common sense. I don't know the crime stats about the percentage of White, Black, Asian, etc are being stopped by the police and neither do you. Just because you or I don't witness a cop going ape shit on Asians, Indians or other races doesn't mean it never happens. Our perception of how things are does not equal reality.

No one has answered your question about why Asians or Indians don't get the same kinds of harassment because it has nothing to do with the protest.

Blacks are the largest minority group in the US and there is just more chance of them interacting with cops.

The point of these protests is not about Asians or Indians not getting harassed by cops, it's about Blacks and some of them unjustly harassed by cops. The fact they might talk ghetto, or may not have the best job, etc is irrelevant if they are not doing anything unlawful. I've already pointed out more than once that it's just not the uneducated or those that live in poorer areas that are being harassed.

The fact they might talk ghetto, or may not have the best job, etc is irrelevant if they are not doing anything unlawful. I've already pointed out more than once that it's just not the uneducated or those that live in poorer areas that are being harassed.
And my point is that there's always going to be some racist people and Dirty Harry cops. There will never be 100% saint hood. My opinion is that there's more cops unjustly beating up and shooting Black people because they have had enough and go ape shit.

I even said these police guys doing stupid shit is absurd and shouldn't be put up with. But remember, they are human. They aren't robots. They react with emotions like you and me no matter how much Police 101 training they do.

As I've said many times, other minorities don't get this treatment, as they have done better for themselves. And that's why you never see any articles or Asian/Indian groups and leaders protesting lousy police interactions with their community. So cops leave them alone and move on. Just to show that, you hardly ever see Asian or Indian guys on crime reports. It's always White or Black guys.

I don't care if some is white, black, old, young, etc..... cut down on stupid shit and cops will hassle you less. It's not like cops cover areas and arrest people in a equal mathematical formula. where a place like Jane/Finch gets the same coverage as Forest Hill. You do more stupid shit and more cops will come to Jane/Finch. Now if 20 years from now Jane/Finch morphs into nice condos and has low crime and some reason Forest Hill becomes a mecca for crime and basement making cociane drug trading, guess what? More cops will patrol Forest Hill because there's lots of fucktards there now.

So for the long run, if Black people want better treatment. Simply protesting isn't going to solve anything. There have been a ton of protests already over the decades. You're still going to have some ghetto talk (leading to shit jobs), and cops who go overboard on Black people because those shit jobs lead to low pay and crime. And in turn cops patrol more, and it's a never ending cycle of lousy environments and pissed off cops patrolling these neighbourhoods.

It's not like these protests have done anything anyway. No new laws, no nothing. It's still the same thing going on except some athletes are protesting during anthems.

And that's why I'm said man times, improve yourself, get better jobs, tidy up yourself and cops will bother you less.

Is it perfect? No. But worth a shot. Other minorities have taken decades to get where they are. From broken English immigration in a different country to doing pretty well now. Looks at all the students and awards..... it's basically all Asian/Indian kids scooping up awards and valedictorian prizes.

That's good work.

First, it's Hispanics that are the largest minority in the US, not blacks.

Second, the protest was about blacks being killed by cops. Educate us on this, please. How many unarmed blacks are killed by cops in the US?

Third, a minority of cops harass or kill, and their victims include members of all races.

You're heavy on the emotional side of things. I challenge you to incorporate facts into your arguments to strengthen them. Facts do matter.

Trump decided to keep the controversy alive. Sent Pence to a game with the instructions to leave if anyone kneeled and then called it an attack on the flag.

Now the battle becomes whether Trump can continue to frame it as an attack on the flag or if NFL players can get this message out:
Reid, who was one of the players to start kneeling with then-49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick during the national anthem to protest racial equality, told reporters that Pence likely knew that players from his team would kneel during the anthem, as seen in a video from SB Nation's Jennifer Lee Chan.

“So this looks like a PR stunt to me. He knew our team has had the most players protest. He knew that we were probably going to do it again,” Reid said.

“This is what systemic oppression looks like. A man with power comes to the game, tweets a couple of things out and leaves the game with an attempt to thwart our efforts. Based on the information I have, that’s the assumption I’ve made.”
