The year is 2004 and we are still entrenched with primitive religious beliefs. I often wonder when the human race will evolve into a civilized society?

And the fact of the matter is that the Jewish leaders of the time *were* responsible for having Jesus crucified
No, Pal, they weren't. God was. God sacrificed his own son for us. Jesus did not die because of Jewish leaders, Jesus died because he was pre-ordained to do so.

But I have to ask how that is different from when the Romans threw Christians to the lions because the Italians don't ever seem to fear reprisals for their actions.
You've just answered your own question. Because, unlike Jews who have been blamed and persecuted (at least in part) because many have deemed them to be "Christ Killers", Italians haven't suffered that slur.

Duh.

the film is based on the actual biblical texts and tries to present exactly how the last 12 hours of Christs life went.
Actually, I saw in one of the trailers that Gibson portrays Jesus as having been nailed to the cross through the hands.

The Romans always nailed people to the cross through their forearms.

So much for historical accuracy. Abi in crucem.

Excellent point! All christians NEED him to die for THEIR sins! And Romans and Jews were the instrument. So we all killed him! :p We are ALL Jesus KILLERS! Except of course Hindus ... But they are Ghandi KILLERS!

Lets all go see the movie, christians can get all emotional and the others get to see a good ol' violent movie. Cheers! and pass the pop corn.

It would help the Jews of today if their leaders would just accept that responsibility with some dignity and then vow to work to not allow it to happen again
There's a fundamental contradiction in your thinking that hints at something rather dark in your beliefs.

Responsibility for what?

Not allow what to happen again?

There is nothing to be forgiven - Christ had to die in order for the miracle of his resurrection to occur.

Great then!

Now that we got that straight lets all pile into the bus and prepare for our ride to hell. Kindly watch Tillithurts' keyboard as we just finished fixing the number keys.

DM: thats a case of biblical innacuracy, the bible said through the hands I believe.

pall: considering how recently it is that christians have stopped blaming and hating jews (WW2 was the last major action taken against them I think) it's understandable why don't trust militant sects like the on Mel Gibson belongs too.

and as I said though I am not a biblical scholar the idea that Jews were the driving force behind christs death was not added until approximately 50 years afterwards if I remember the show I saw correctly.

dying of old age or in chariot accident wouldn't have been good enough?
Not according to a violent God! Same God who wanted Abraham to sacrifice his own son Isaac; isn’t that suppose to be foreshadowing God and Christ, like in good literature? Now when has religion been logical? You just have to BELIEVE my son, in the mysteries.

In the laboratory.
Very disappointed in Mel. I was hoping he'd portray Christ. Could've done his Lethal Weapon character - yet again! Would love to have seen Jesus doing the Curly Howard thing. Woo-woo-woo-woo! Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk!

I'm not saying it's true-but even if it is, that it was the Jewish people that were instrumental for putting Christ on the Cross, does it matter? It happened over 2000 years ago. Gibson made a good point when he did his Prime Time interview-does watching movies about the Holocaust make people hate the Germans? Maybe, and that happened only within the past 100 years. Logic dictates that it wasn't the race itself that's responsible but only certain individuals. It's like me as a Chinese guy still resenting the Japanese for their invasion of China all those years ago. Are we still living at an age where we're paying for the sins of our ancestors!?!

Someone made a really good point earlier. Anyone that knows the Bible or claim to be either Christian or Catholic knows that the sole reason Christ came to earth is to die for our sins. He knows he was going to die regardless. It's the fundamental part of Christianity. So to say that we're all responsible for Christ having to die because we all sin is a much more accurate statement than to say any particular race put Christ on the cross.

As for the nail through the hand thing...that's up for debate. I saw a show awhile back saying that it's through the wrist/bone cause there's no way the hand can sustain that much weight...regardless, crucifixation would certainly not be my choice if I were to dies...

Just my 2 cents worth...

Just curious? Where'd he go after his resurrection? If you're resurrected then you're not dead. If you're not dead then you're wandering around somewhere. So what's the story here, career change or what? (I haven't kept up with the various religous beliefs)
