This refers to the long-standing for decade Supreme Court decision in Roe. In the Senate hearings each of the new Trump Supreme court nominees said as I recall that a long-standing ruling should not easily be overturned. But they did and in polls about 80% of the US wants to return to the 24 week standard of Roe.
I think we might have different definitions of codified. Most often laws are "codified" by the legislature and the executive. Many State constitutions allow for referendums whereby the voting public can codify a law.

In the U.S. Courts do not codify laws. They merely interpret the meaning of laws and how they are applied.

The Senate judicial hearings in the recent past are an entirely different matter. I believe when Democrats were vigorously trying to make Roe vs. Wade a litmus test for Supreme Court nominees, some of the nominees did not come out and declare their position one way of another.

There are many that don't think the Kavanaugh hearings were a fiasco and many who do. At their core, the hearings had something to do with abortion.

Caveat: People read explanations like this that they might not hear in the media. Depending on their position, they will interpret them to mean I am anti-abortion. I personally am in favor of some type of 15-20 week limitation.

Putin has been extraordinarily lucky for over a decade, now his luck has run out. Ukraine is striking deep into Russia with F-16 and drones. He may even have a bigger problem, China wants Outer Manchuria back, they are more than happy to watch Russia exhaust it's military capabilities. Far Eastern Siberia is practically defenseless.

putin was waiting for winter olympics to be over before his invasion. had to do shit with Trump or Biden.
Well I can agree with that. Would Trump have negotiated some type of compromise prior to an invasion? We have no idea.

I will say that U.S. Presidents live with the state of foreign affairs they are dealt. As the "leader of the free world" there are tremendous expectations and burdens. I doubt anyone in next year's Canadian elections are going to discuss the Ukrainian conflict a great deal.

Trump has many loans for his business in Russian banks. That is a factor for which he will sell his country to save his ass.

Time, years!, will confirm that i am right on this.

Americans for their credit live in 1 giant bubble...Canadians for their credit woke up and see what damage a left leaning gov't can do...
Tories (43%) Hold a Steady 19-Point Lead over Liberals (24%), as a Third of Canadians Say They Would Never Vote Liberal in the Next Election

I really wanted Kamala to win just to tell you what a bad idea it's going to be... because If Justin is doing bad...wait what Kamala can do...

A few perfunctory considerations

-no significant change in polls post debate

-But a huge boost in donations to Harris resulted post debate

-Harris had bomdarded Mar-a-Lago area with ads
on Fox hoping Trump would view them pre debate

-More Republican leaders have defected to Harris side post debate

-Trump threw Vance under the bus when he
denied he told him he would sign abortion ban bill if it came to his desk
during debate

-Vance is going to get blamed for a lot of stuff

I put this question to another member on another thread who hasn't answered.

What decision of President Trump's regarding Russia do you believe was inappropriate? These "Trump is in Putin's pocket" declarations must manifest themselves in some type of favor.

As far as confirmation, I fear you are just repeating political rhetoric that has you disoriented from overexposure.

I think if Kamala Harris is elected, she will have to deal with a Republican Senate at a minimum. It's looking like the Democrats' hope of holding Montana is slipping away. Interestingly, Jon Tester the Democratic Senator from Montana has not endorsed Kamala Harris. A Democratic Senator not endorsing the party's Presidential candidate is just one of those things that makes our system different.

Anyway, the U.S. tends to still thrive when both parties have a share of power. You will hear a lot of teeth-gnashing and fear-mongering about this budget and that budget. Kamala wants to do this and that. It's the end of America if she can't.

A fact check moderators missed

On Tuesday evening, Trump criticized Harris’s clean energy approaches like reducing fracking and fossil fuel emissions. He claimed those policies do not work and cited Germany as an example.

Germany tried that and within one year they were back to building normal energy plants. We’re not ready for it. We can’t sacrifice our country for the sake of bad vision,” Trump added.

But Germany refuted that claim, telling the former president, “Like it or not: Germany’s energy system is fully operational, with more than 50 % renewables. And we are shutting down – not building – coal & nuclear plants. Coal will be off the grid by 2038 at the latest.”

But they have faced setbacks over the last few years when they, controversially, chose to shut down their remaining three nuclear power plants last year and faced potential energy shortage issues at the start of the Ukraine–Russia war.

This meant Germany had to rely more on its coal-powered plants longer than anticipated to avoid a catastrophic shortage and starve-off price increases.

But the country has not built any new coal plants and continues to shut down some each year.
I think this is a heavily skewed and limited interpretation of what is happening with German energy.

The one thing I know of the Continental European governments is that they do not like criticism from the U.S. and will not be forthright about what is happening. Hey, they're politicians too. They're not holy men.

Publicly hesitating to provide Ukraine with weapons to defend themselves against further Russian invasions. And using this to try to extort Ukraine into launching an investigation into Biden's son. Never mind, not being righteous and strong enough to increase sanctions against Russia for their continued illegal occupation of Ukraine.

As for some sort of favour... Putin, through HIS banks and oligarchs, have been the leading financier and purchaser of money laundering Trump condo sales to Russians. Trump is financially betrothen to Putin.

Agreed, the war in Ukraine will probably not be debated much in Canada, but there are some right-wingers who echo the US (and Russian financed) views that we should let Ukraine wither on the vine.

As for Trump....I doubt he'd do much to stop Putin. He'd probably put the screws to Ukraine and tell them to give into Russia. I mean, Trump did nothing to address the border battles that were going on since 2014. And, I think only true believers in the Donald would think Putin wouldn't have tried something with Trump as president....
