I know what this is going to degenerate to and will probably do that pretty quickly. i am not gonna to far involved in that. i like food bringers, they are good solid people that are just trying to put food on the table or put gas in the car and doing the best they can with what little education they have.

anyway i ordered online and in the special instructions i said "i only have 100$ bill so please bring appropriate change to round meal price to 75$" order was total 18.25$ and i wanted 75$ change meaning he was getting a 6.75$ tip and the pizza place is about 3/4 of a mile away from my hotel.

so he showed up and brought the pizza. box was angled so the toppings slid, the garlic bread was stuck to the wrapper and and the cake i ordered was upside down in it's box. not his fault (i gave him the benefit of the doubt) and went to hand him the 100$ bill and asked for the 75$ in change. he said he didn't have it and i was like fuck i gave instructions for you to do that cuz i got nothing for you if you don't have change. he smiled and said no problem and i apologized again. i really did feel bad for not being able to tip him.

so i sat down to eat and i was half way into the first slice and just getting started my first episode for the day of star trek when there was a knock on the door. i opened it and there he was with change for me, like 10 mins later. he said he went back to the pizza shop and got change and came back. i gave him the 5$ tip and told him to have a good one.

i won't order from there again cuz it really is just very bad food.

would you have given him the tip or told him to get fucked ?

My general rule is; tip people if they bring you food, drink or money. Not sure if it's his fault about the change, if the order taker told him or not. Oh yeah, tip SPs too.

Dude, where are you ordering from where pizza, garlic bread, cake, tax, and delivery charge is ONLY 18.25? Food must be bad for that price... To answer your question, i definitely would not have tipped him because of the way the food showed up. I give him credit, though, for coming back
mini peperoni pizza, half loaf of garlic bread (that i didn't finish or even come close to half of) and slice of chocolate cake. i am in northern california, minimal sales tax and shit here and it was just a local place not a chain or anything. no delivery charge on order over 15$ and i think sales tax was 1.50$

If you were going to tip him anyways, why did you cheap out 10 minutes later?

when he showed up the first time i was going to give him 6.75$, he didn't have change and left with 1.75$. he came back and i gave him the other 5$. i gave him what i had intended to give him from the very start.

sure, I would have given him a tip. $5 is plenty. Likely not his fault that the message didn't get communicated right in the first place. He probably doesn't make a whole lot and relies on tips.

How do you not leave tips at a restaurant? When service is snit but then your little waitress shows up do you explain to her why you don't bill?

i would put him around 19-20 and his car was beat up. it was the change left over + the 5$, worked out to 6.75$. just seemed odd that he left then came back 10 mins later.

For delivery, I *always* tip the delivery guy, even if the order is totally fucked up. If I am unhappy with the order after paying and tipping, I call the store and complain to the store manager. Reasonable places usually credit me my next order. Unreasonable places don't get any more of my business.

Even when something looks like it's probably the delivery guy's fault, you don't really know--maybe the store's expecting the unreasonable from the delivery guys, no matter what the problem is, I figure it's management's problem to solve, both in terms of making good with me, and in terms of dealing with their staff.

it wasn't that i didn't want to tip him, i wanted to. the "special order instructions" i placed on the order were ignored and he didn't come with proper change. after you shut the door and sit down to eat (10 mins later), he comes knocking and says i got change now. i didn't get mad or nothing at the guy, i did just dump a massive shit of a review on grub hub and yelp though.

A "wrong" order...i agree Fuji, you should tip as it is not driver's fault. But a tipped pizza box and upside cake. Fuck him...he needs to pay more attention
Even if it's clearly the delivery guy's fault I tip him, and then I take it up with his boss. His boss can make good to me, and if it really is the delivery guy's fault and he's fucked up several times--well his boss can fix that problem too, better than I can by under tipping.

Fuji, you are a generous man...
My belief is that these are problems that management is best placed to solve, they know the whole story, I don't. They know if they gave the guy too much work, or if it's his first day on the job, or whatever, and I don't. They're able to solve the problem in ways that I cannot, so I push the problem to them. Also in these cases I find good businesses will offer me a full refund or credit on my order if it was really obnoxious, like flipping a pizza upside down or whatever.

If you think I'm so generous, just note, I have probably gotten a few delivery guys fired over the years. I gave them a nice tip, though.

Why do you need to make a big production out of every mundane aspect of your life, even ordering food. Some people just need attention, the good kind or the bad kind does not matter. You have Histrionic personality disorder.
