This issue has been the subject of several threads. I think what is happening in Toronto is that the politicians and LE are taking a sensible, practical, pragmatic approach to the law. Awhile back I did a fairly rough estimate of the economics of independant SP vs. agency SP and though it is far to detailed to get into here there is are some definite points in which girls have to be doing business in order to be profitable.

Agency ladies are basically independant contractors so working at an agency they are sharing overhead with other contractors, this reduces several basic expenses and often frees up many hours of admin. time so in theory they may make more per hour by subcontracting out any nonclient related issues. Some ladies like myself and Gen for example work for an agency but choose to spend non-billable hours interacting with our clients online, this may or may not reduce our ROI, as some might argue it could also increase it by being hands on with marketing and brand.

In contrast independants are required to handle all aspects of their business themselves, however many are too busy with the day to day administrative duties such as fielding basic inquiries, paying invoices, etc. to even consider brand management. I don't want to get into too many specifics here as I don't want to single out any of the girls that over the years were kind enough to talk to me about their business but there appears to be a way to be profitable at the very high client volume and very low client volume but not much in the middle as an independant. An agency girl on the otherhand has much more flexibility in her profit model and can generally be profitable at all levels if she chooses.

Why don't more sps promote themselves by getting into daily terb conversations and engaging in some fun banter with the terb guys?

It might also be easier to be an indy if this is your only job, but for someone in school or with another job, it would be almost impossible IMO because of the time consumption answering emails and calls, most of which are dead ends.

I started as a student and would answer my phone when I got home from school each day.. most clients booked with 1/2 hr notice for a 1/2 hr incall. Easy Peezy..

re: independant vs. agency. I have been independant for 19 of my 20 years escorting.. as soon as I realized I didn't need an agency.. I stopped using one. Back then I needed to pay for advertising in the paper (Now Magazine was the only way and then Eye weekly followed suit..eventually the Sun).

Prior to that the yellow pages were the only way to go and agencies were the norm.. I also added identi-call so I had a 2nd # with a separate ring. Keeping in mind this was before cell phone use. Now being an indy is virtually painfree with respect to cost. Internet advertising is very cost effective compared to the paper ads and email cost effective compared to the phone.

The main reason for an agency was/would be for me.. if I only wanted to do outcalls. But as a student I managed to get 3 other girlfriends interested in the idea of doing incalls back in the 80's and away we went..

Personally I found with respect to loser factor/risk factor I had better results when I answered the phone myself than when I worked for an agency... but not all agency owners are as interested in the quick buck and as disinterested in the escort's emotional/physical health as mine was. She really lost out b/c I wouldn't have gone indy had she taken better care of me.

anyone back that up? it's news to me.. but I'm only speaking from an SP perspective.. can't comment on the dancers (which btw is a different thread) WE - sp's and dancers are not interchangeable. Some may do both but most don't.

Nearly everyone seems to stick within their own race when dating and escorting is no exception. I know about 40 or so women in the industry well enough to know the men they are dating/have dated, and maybe 5 of them have dated black men, with one (two? not sure) dating EXCLUSIVELY black men. That seems in proportion to the general population.
