Hoffman started the year very well but has blown 3 of his past 6 save chances. And now sports a 6.10 ERA. Hopefully a blip in the radar.
The good new is the Jays are over .500 and they've started hitting.
The bad news is they have played 28 home games and only 21 road games.

The bad news is

1 Vlad and Sandman are not hitting homers and will not have a great season

2 We have not got depth in pitching and that is where most injuries occurr. We cannot even replace our fifth starter

3 The central division is now the best division and is where one, probably both WC
will come from so we have to win our division

4 Worse news of all is management will be buyers instead of sellers at deadline
so we have no future as our farm system is one of the weakest

Blue Jays need to steal away Tampa's management team. They always seem to find diamonds in the rough.

Through 55 games the Blue Jays have scored 209 runs. That's less than 4 runs per game. The only teams in the Majors with less runs are KC, Texas, Chisox, Colorado and Pittsburgh. Its a small miracle that we're basically .500.

Dave Popkins is in his 1st season as hitting coach. He took over from Guillermo Martinez, whose contract was not renewed after six seasons with the club. Perhaps this is not as much a coaching issue as it is a personnel issue. And that is a direct indictment of Atkins and Shapiro.

What happened to Schneider? Not too many appearances this year
If you mean Davis, he's been in Buffalo since mid-April. If you mean John the manager, he's been largely invisible. If you mean John the 'Duke of Hazzard', he's doing Hallmark Channel movies and car show appearances in 'Red' States. If you mean the Janitor from One Day at a Time, he died nine years ago, and hasn't been seen since. If you mean Maria, she was sent to get 'the butter', and didn't come back.

2025 attendance:

may25-9.png

is down significantly from the same time last year:

may241.png

The anomalous 2025 games, (May 17, 18 and 22), are all afternoon games. Attendance for home night games this month has been consistently around 23,500, which is probably very close to the season ticket base. In the American League, official attendance is based on ticket sales, as opposed to 'bums in seats'. The 'walk up' crowd appears to be negligible.

Someone attending a game in person should ask one or more scalpers about game day ticket prices, and report it here. My guess is that the cost would be at or near face value, meaning some season ticket holders sold to them at less than cost.

Vlad Jr.'s 14 year contract extension is unusually structured:

vlad-1.png

One would normally not expect the year 14 salary to be less than 75% of year 1.

Comparisons:

Juan Soto:

Aaron Judge:

Shohei Ohtani:

Ohtani's only receiving $2 Million annual salary while playing for the LA Dodgers, but his annual endorsement income has been estimated to be $40 Million. When he starts to collect the $690 Million owing to him after the 2033 season, it's unlikely that he will have a California residency, for tax purposes.

Before anyone gets giddy about the Jays' modest three game winning streak and having a record above .500 again, keep in mind the The Athletics have only won 3 of their last 22 games, only the Colorado Rockies have a worse run differential, and the A's backup catcher has already appeared in three games as a pitcher.
