So... after Friday's games Tampa Bay cannot be caught. But the Orioles lost so we're still tied. Toronto needs to win the next two (good luck) and Baltimore lose at least one. Then they can boast of not having finished in the basement.

I'm still slightly worried about are starting staff. Stro is number one, Happ and Estrada 2 and 3, but Happ is getting old and I'm a bit worried that Estrada might have another off-season like he had this year

Why the obsession with finishing ahead of baltimore. Being 1 game ahead or even tied is not really anything to brag about.

Currently the jays will be 11th in the draft. If they an lose 2 and Oakland can get 2 wins that becomes the 10th pick which if I recall is still protected if you sign a QO FA. Besides you get to pick before Baltimore.

As an added bonus - if NY wins 2 against Toronto and Houston beats Boston we will have a tie for the division. Then NYY and BOS have to play an extra game which will mess up the post season.

Not sure why you really care. Nobody "boast" about finishing second last. Other than making the playoffs, nobody cares or remembers what place you finish. You either make the playoffs or you don't.

Unfortunately for the Jays, this year's season could have been summed up a while ago with this:

No issue with you posting whatever you like. If it helps make them interesting then ok for you. For me, at the end of the day if the lose one more nothing changes. Lose and potentially a better draft choice and I get to bitch about the good plays / performances.

I got my Orioles voodoo doll ready:
I'm telling ya, this shit works!!!!!!
Can you get ones for the Yankees and Sox as well for next season? Jays need all the help they can get.

It's all about Sanchez. If he comes back and gives us 200+ innings next year then we are in the playoff race. Only one of Happ or Estrada need to perform well and that's a pretty good likelihood.

Unbelievable. Last day of the season and the Jays are stumbling across the finish line yet they can STILL finish out of last place. The Orioles are looking even worse than the Jays at this point.

A Jays win today avoids the sweep and keeps it possible to bypass the Orioles, but only if they lose to the Rays.

It's like the opposite of a playoffs race, to see who can stumble across the finish line a step in front of the other guy.

What a difference a year makes - Both of these teams were battling for home field advantage to host the wild card game and now they are playing for rights to last place in the division.

Of note is that the NL wild card teams last year, SF and the Mets had horrible seasons (SF last, Mets next to last).

This is why they say baseball teams don't need to go into full rebuild mode like other sports try to do. A few little things makes or breaks a team. With the Blue Jays, the injuries to Sanchez, Travis, JD and Tulo, plus JB having the worst year of his career and Morales not meeting expectations, there you have it. (not to mention Estrada had a month and half where he was the worst pitcher in baseball) You fix a few of these things and you have a very different season. Hopefully Sanchez has this blister issues behind him next year, we know anything will be an upgrade in the outfield next year for both corner spots. (Alford and Hernandez will get shots, and if Hernandez does what he doing now, sweet Jesus) Travis will get one more shot I think at proving he's not totally made of glass. You put all these things together and you'll see how a team goes from last to being a contender.

Things couldn't have gone any worse for the Jays this year. If it could go wrong, it did. Hopefully next year is the opposite. In order to win you also need to be lucky. 2018 is a lot more promising than many people might realize.

Another feeble response from an old man.

Thanks for the morning chuckle!!

Keep dancing for me!
I am boring yet you continually follow and respond to my posts. And your responses always include some name calling.

You are one smooth operator.

I'm predicting Donaldson will be part of a multi-player trade this winter

That would be very interesting. Maybe like Fernandez/McGriff for Carter/Alomar.

Jays still have him for a year. They would need to get a current star as Shapeero has promised (including to Estrada to help the Jays sign him) that the Jays are going for it next year. This means that he cannot trade JD for prospects.
