I said that? Owners use their monopoly to steal. They have been forced to share this stolen loot with a greedy players union. Neither side cares about the fans being overcharged.

Politicians are supposed to restrict monopolies . In the case of pro sports they seem to support it .
How is MLB a monopoly? You can start up a league tomorrow if you want. No laws preventing it. If players don't like the system or the compensation there are plenty of leagues around the world that will pay them to play baseball.

Look at his numbers while he was with St.Louise compared to Anaheim. In St.Louis, high 30's to over 40 HR's a year, and a average well above .300. St.Louis thought they were getting that, not .270 with 30HRs, and some years even worse
For his age (37) his numbers are very good though. But I agree the length and amount of his LA contract is over the top, and only leads to out-of-control inflation

Oh come on. Pro sports expand with the deliberate intent of stopping competition and as you can observe their devious plan works extremely well.

Perhaps I would be more correct to say pro sports is an oligopoly.

Competition is so impractical that it might as well be outlawed.

Toronto area could support 2 or 3 teams . This would bring prices down but the Leafs will not allow it because they protect their turf and do not give a fuck about the fans.

If you have taken an economics course, oligogopoly and monopoly are terms that are not easily confused.

If you hate the current structure so much, instead of complaining about it why not just avoid consuming it. Don't go to games, stream or download them, or buy merchandise with team logos and avoid the products and services from the real powers that drive the dollars in sport, the advertisers who help create the big media deals to broadcast the games. Your problem is solved.

Jays were lucky to split tonight.

Is it time to let Pillar go (in a multiple player package)??

I have never taken economics, so what?

Do not consume it! A very foolish thing to say.

I want to consume pro sports, and I should not have to pay the outrageous prices of an oligolipy to do it. Just like I should not have to deal with the Maifia.

Monopolies and Maifia is same thing.

You can't wrap up all your mediocre players into one package thinking you will get something for them other than more mediocrity.

Errr Roberto Osuna....running and ducking incoming monkey shit - just watched War For The Planet of the Apes.

Time for Tim and Sid:

Tim is on vacation, Jackie is guest hosting. Sid decides to come in with a new hair style and Jackie asks if he has a chia pet on his head.

The much more crucial question is who do you keep!

Who are the players in the present roster around whom you could build a new team.

My choices: Sanchez, Osuna, Stroman, Biagini, Barnes, Tepera, Donaldson, Smoak, Travis, Pillar, Smith, Pompey, Gurriel, Alford... perhaps a couple of others.

And there will probably be a few others that they are going to hang on to because no one will pay for them... so might as well let them fill some of the holes until they find what they are looking for. Sad to say that Tulo and Martin fit into that category.

As I said before, I am beginning to appreciate the way Shatkins operate... I like what they did in Cleveland. And IIRC I heard talk at the time Shapeyero was hired that he was expected to do with the Blue Jays exactly what he had done with the Indians... except in a much larger market.

I am sure Shatkins have a plan... and I am sure they also have their eyes on several pieces they would like to get.

It is a rebuild process with a lot of moving parts... and it could be a 1 or 2 step process.

I am looking forward to watching the BJ's rebuild over the next couple of years.

I don't know about anybody else but I like to talk about the game of baseball which I have loved for about 60 years, and do not enjoy the talk about the business of baseball. Today I was thinking, maybe Sanchez is through as a starter but could be a closer....and Osuna become a starter next year (he has a number of pitches). I know of previous failures notably that fat guy who looked like Babe Ruth's grandson Joba. On the other hand, I would not trade Osuna for any other closer in the game right now.

Osuna is off the table as far as I'm concerned.

Other non-touchables are Stroman and (blister-free) Sanchez.
Just my humble opinion
