Well I actually believe they is a good chance that largely indebted provinces such as Ontario will wish to just refer the case to the Ontario Court of Appeal before they start enforcing the law. It is a get out of jail free card that temporarily saves them money and they don't need to deal with a complex social issue as it is going through the court system.

Provinces with the exception of Manitoba (Because they love bill C-36) have not really been consulted on the legislation which will cost millions to enforce, prosecute, and ultimately deal with the social consequences. Essentially without large amounts of federal funding to the provinces, no one is going to really care. Police Budgets are already being heavily scrutinized as being unsustainable. Most police chiefs know that arresting a whole bunch of Johns just further reinforces what we already know - there are too many police officers with too little actual crime to deal with. They are going to dedicate their resources to something that shows value like busting drug rings.
This is of course if there is leave to appeal. The Liberals and NDP are not really balking at this. Oh sure, they yell out the obligTory defiance...but deep down they know it is going through, will work and most importantly they were not at the table to contribute. This will slide through....And the attorney generals office may well not want to run another case up the Supreme Court flagpole....as the law may well be very valid. We will see!

Correct...these are already on the books....somewhat removed from the Bedford case...but in a nuanced way...serious offenses in the sex category that need to be dealt with. Forcing someone to prostitute.....a pimp for instance.....who then makes money of her sex act is already against the law....falls under this category again....and may be easier to find with this law...given the girls now have ummunity

The Provincial Government doesn't need leave to appeal. They can refer a question of constitutionality to the Court of Appeal whenever they want.

Did the government publish the results of the public survey ? I thought that the majority of Canadians felt prostitution should not be against the law. I tend to believe it because it has not been referenced very often.

No matter the results of the survey...this law makes it legal, without fear of prosecution.

She has let her anger get the better of her. She has now set back almost everything we have been trying to fight for just because of anger. We as escorts and hobbiests need to be taken seriously but to do that we need keep a level head and our anger in check. By threatening to name people, she is showing that escorts can be no better than extortionists, when 90% of us aren't. How many of us try to protect those that we see in any way we can? How many of us have taken the steps to continue that even if or when this bill passes.

Please don't congratulate her. I applaud her for taking this as far as she has, but she has crossed a line today and the government may just go after us even worse.
If you fear your government you do not deserve to live in a democracy.
If you trod on someone's free right to speech to save your own derrière you definitely do not belong in a democracy.
And lastly to Crime Minister Harpo, if you oppress humans they will find a way, its easy to take it underground and really cause a mess for everyone.

While I agree with you whole heartedly, you aren't doing anyone favours by suggesting 10% of us are as bad or worse than extortionists. I hope you meant to say 1% and slipped.

And stubbing my toe is not unlike cancer.
Oh wait
And STUBBING MY toe is NOT UNLIKE cancer.
BEING REJECTED by a GIRL IS NOT unlike the holocaust.
Sending a CHILD TO bed without SUPPER IS not unlike GANG RAPE.

Because of course one can't be taken seriously WITHOUT USING all caps on CERTAIN words.
Wanna see something really fraught with import and gravitas? Try using "SCARE QUOTES" around your "RANDOM" capitalized words and "PHRASES". Wanna "TAKE" it right into the "STRATOSPHERE"? Try "ITALICIZING" it. I just "BLEW" yer fecking "MIND", didn't I :D

fmahovalich I really don't know you very well. Why the apologetics? Are you a troll? It's obvious you're a Conservative supporter.

huh? Are are you being serious?
Dead serious.

Ask your Liberal candidate what his ideas are to deal with the Supreme Court ruling. They offer nothing.

Don't fear the government, why should I. As a person who has lived in a third world country where democracy was just a word in a half burned dictionary, trust me I know how good I have it up here.

But if you want to be taken seriously then you don't threaten with something that can be potentially criminal. I don't like this new bill anymore than you or the other hobbiest, and not because of what I do for a living as I am one of the lucky ones and it is easy for me to change that. What I hate is the fear my friends show because of this bill, what I hate is hearing the fear of what if in their voices, and I really hate the stress that is being put on people who should be able to enjoy the fact that they are adults.

Was gonna call you Frank, but I never heard of a Frank Mahovalich, so I am not sure what the "f" stands for. I digress.

How can you not see that even though they are doing nothing illegal, they cannot make an income and survive because most of their business will get scared away because they don't want to get charged.

Can anyone name one other business where it is legal to sell your legal product/service but illegal for anyone to purchase it? It is ludicrous and a mockery.

Same with advertising. They can advertise but it is illegal for a third party to put the ads up. Should they form their own billboard company under their own name. Or start a radio station under their own name so as to do ads. Again, this is ludicrous and a mockery.

They can sell, but nobody is allowed to buy.
They can advertise but nobody is allowed to put up their ads.
Harper/McKay are big douchebags. They have the 1984 Doublespeak down pat.

I hate those guys for so many reasons (respect only their foreign policy).

I actually think their foreign policy is also a joke but you hit the nail on the head with bill C-36. Hopefully fmahovalich can get himself educated on the issues rather than buying into the harper/McKay propaganda.

Exactly....and the girls....could have the industry with some degree of anonymity. Now the girl got what terry Jean wanted....that being the ability to advertise and have sex.....and I'm not so sure the majority of ladies wNt it this way. Alas, it's the way of business...and in reality the ladies are now self employed entities. It's challenge on both sides.

once the law passes, I would not want to be Mirage, the Toeonto Sun or TERB for that matter, and keep on advertising. There will be a few test cases to ensure the new laws Re upheld.

And the ur ours I hear are, that while the Liberals and NDP provide the obvious backlash and repudiation about the bill, in fact they will accept it as quite honestly, they had no answers and contributed nothing to the discussion....Just so that they could rebel now. Politics at its finest!
Do everyone a favour and just STFU. All you do on each and every post that you make is parrot government talking lines. You have absolutely nothing of value to contribute to the discussion.

Unfortunately, it's a shortsighted attitude. C-36 is a bad law. As soon as it passes, the CPC will want to move as far away from it as possible(they're out of step with Canadians on that one) while a new appeal is launched by its opponents. If this lady names names, the shock value alone will keep this bad law in a spot light. It's been quiet on the C-36 front, lately. Ms. Bedford placed it on the front pages again.
