Finally Shapo has a coach independent of his mother and Tennis Canada - it's about fucking time. Matt Daly is the new coach, he looks to have fixed his serve, he's also part psychologist. The situation was not good good for him with his previous coaches, after Tessa he had Mikhail Youzhny for the US Open. That didn't work out so Peter Polanski and Greg Rusedski took over, he lost to Hubert Hurcasz in the third round. Then he got injured in Rome, the Canadians became history.
In his second round match, he did what he had to do, not drop a set. Wimbledon is a marathon based on speed, here's hoping he can go deep.

Going into Friday of week one, we still have 2 Canadians left in singles, Bianca and Shapo and both from the GTA. Shapo seems more in control this time around, not going for the huge, high risk winners at every chance as is his tendency. He's working more points and waiting for better opportunities to go for a winner.
Milos battled. 4 sets is not bad for world number 850 going against the 16th seed. He'd only played 2 matches going into the tournament.

Bianca is not unattractive, she's just not cute like Leylah. She got pushed today by Kalinina but managed a brilliant comeback.

Bianca took out Jabeur with relative ease in the first set. But when Jabeur raised her game, Bianca could not respond in the following two sets. Bummer
Belinda Bencic being a superb defensive player pushed Iga to the limit, the Pole had to fight back from two match points to eventually win the match. If Bencic had an extra burst of power (like Leggy Supermodel) she would have won. Mira Andreeva will be a great player, she got exposed by Madison Keys. Keys started with her power game and promptly lost the first set. So she adjusted to old school tennis, serve and volley plus the net game. Andreeve was left discombobulated she snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
Shapo lost his concentration and went down to defeat to a player I never heard of before, everyone wanted a Shapo vs Sinner QF. In looking for dark horses that could give Joker trouble, I though Chris Eubanks had a shot, it doesn't look like he'll get passed Tsitsi. Joker's match against Hubert Hurkacz was suspended. The Pole has a big serve, Joker gutted out two 7-6 set wins.

Novak Djokovic has got to be the greatest athlete of all time. Not just tennis. All sports. Lost first set today against Rublev, who was returning all balls served like crazy. Any mere mortal would have folded. Not Djokovic. Point by point, he methodically dissected Rublev and dispatched him in 4 sets. incredible performance. His mental toughness is off the charts.
Tom Brady, Michael Jordan both GOATS in their respective sports. But they are dependent on others to win. A tennis player stands alone against balls coming at 100 km/hr with no assistance from anyone. Awesome.
