Who isn't always whining and bitching? The only difference is their bitching makes the front page and whereas everybody else just bitches amongst themselves.Ontario teachers are the best paid with the most benefits and best working conditions in the world. So, why are they always whining and bitching

Just out of curiousity, why do you feel teachers should be paid based on merit but police, fire, nurses and paramedics shouldn't?My solution - the dissolution of all public service unions with exceptions for police officers, fire fighters nurses and paramedics. Doing so better ensures that teachers will be paid based upon merit. And bad teachers will be demoted or even fired. Students will win in the end under that scenario.
I think they need a union due to safety concerns directly related to their jobs.Just out of curiousity, why do you feel teachers should be paid based on merit but police, fire, nurses and paramedics shouldn't?
I am forced to agree with you. They're certainly not the best though. Because of the bad education system in Canada there are people that are functional illiterates. Even if you get a post secondary degree I've met some retards with multiple letters after their name. The teachers in this province and country should worry about doing a quality job not getting paid more. But this is the problem with unionized work environments. Once you're in the weak and bad get protected and over paid.
I have friends who are parents and they tell me how bad the teaching is.
No wonder Canada is no longer innovative. Apart from RIM or shopify name a Canadian company or invention that blew you away. I would say after the 1980s Canada has been coasting. It's because we graduate mediocre students that become mediocre people.
No wonder, economics aside, Canadian universities are full of foreign students. Our homegrown students are too lazy or too dumb to get into technical non arts fields. It all starts with the teaching they get in primary and secondary school.
Have you ever taught a class of 30 kids before? Just curious. As to teachers in Ontario, they have a sweetheart of a job.
When you have negative $13.5B dollars each year, you can't afford either, mate.We can totally afford to pay those people.
We can't afford the tax breaks for corporations and the very rich.
Except for idiots, no one is disputing the value of education. But if you value education so much, why don't you advocate we throw in a couple more billion a year? How about 20 billion? A hundred? For the same reason we are saying teachers are overpaid. Resources are finite, and no amount of "want" or "should" is ever going to change that.Wow. There is so much hate.
Those of you who think you are so educated and smart, were you not educated by teachers?
Don’t you think your experiences as a student, parent, or whatever interactions you have with bad teachers are a result of sampling size?
This country is still performing in top of the world and our education is still regarded fairly well.
A bunch of you just sound like shill sounding boards for an easy target.
Tell me, out of: military, health, education, infrastructure, security and a few more major areas, can’t you all realize that if a country does not value and put resources into its education, you’re not creating and feeding into a system that supports itself?
Cops make more money than teachers but why wouldn’t you want to value education? Why wouldn’t you want to respect the system and give your kids a future? That I don’t understand, as a parent. There is a responsibility to your child and to society.
Education is the path.
People here sound so bitter and ignorant. Do you have better ideas? I hope you realize that the top countries in the world are often the most educated and value that as such.
Actually, some (a lot?) of the stuff they teach in schools nowadays have no practical value. A few years ago I sold a bike to a university student and gave her a free bell. She asked how do you connect the bell to the bike? I said you take a screwdriver and tighten the screws. She then asked what is a screwdriver?Except for idiots, no one is disputing the value of education.
I think teachers and their unions prefer 22 kids per class. Of course, they will probably want 15 kids per class once we get to the 22 target.Have you ever taught a class of 30 kids before?
