The flames are a train wreck. Can't see Trevaling lasting after this year, would they make sutter coach and GM, was Quinn the last one of those in the league? Did he do it with the leafs? Seems to be a thing of the past nowadays but does sutter have the clout to request or demand it? They are in a bind with sutter as if they fire him they look like real idiots. Sometimes the game passes coaches by, probably the case here. Their top end players are average at best. The old boys club coaches seem to be being phased out. Doubt julien will find another job, babcock, hitchcock, all at the top of the coaching world at one point with their own teams and team Canada.

All teams bottom out but Calgary never planned this one. Torts will be out this year too, who would want that headache. I knew Dallas Eakins a bit years ago, he doesn't seem to be an NHL calibre coach, probably gone too.

I remember that fateful month of Feb 2001, the Leafs would be doomed to over a decade of total failure and by extension the Raptors.

Ken Dryden and Mike Smith started out well when they became the management team in 1998. Everything appeared to be falling into place, but a power struggle ensued. Then Steve Stavro's health started to fail and most of his real estate holdings were bought up by The Teacher's Pension Fund. The man who engineered the transfer of power was The Legendary Richard Peddie. Smith was fired but Dryden proved too weak to exert control, Quinn became GM. Eventually Peddie subverted them both, Dryden and Quinn were gone and Peddie became The All Highest.

The Pension Fund became gold plated under Peddie, almost doubling their assets, including key real estate holdings across the city. The Leafs, Raptors and for awhile TFC collapsed into sad comical ineptitude.

Larry Tanenbaum has hoisted 2 trophies, TFC, and the Raptors, why? Because he has let the sports executives with knowledge and expertise run the teams without any meddling. Mind you that they know the Leafs will be the toughest challenge.

Larry Tanenbaum made a horrific mistake when Steve Stavro's health started to fail - he hired Richard Peddie. To The Teacher's the man is a legend, just look at their revenue stream between 2000 - 2012. They became more powerful than the Ontario Government. By 2012, they realized that they couldn't choke the Golden Goose any longer, the sale to the media companies was done by Tom Anselmi and Morgan Stanley. It has been suggested that none of this would have happened if The Westons hadn't put the thumbscrews to Stavro, I disagree. Stavro undermined and eventually fired Cliff Fletcher.

Anselmi wanted to fire Peddie but The Teacher's wouldn't allow it, he was allowed to retire with a generous pension. Anselmi took his ire out on Bryan Burke, whom he fired in Jan/2013. Unfortunately his club (TFC) were horrible and he was passed over in favour of Tim Leiweke.

...a song for The Ontario Teacher's Pension Fund.
