He wants to finish his career with an actual shot @ the NBA title. I think Nash would be more of a value on the court.

Good choice! Now, it would be nicer if he likes to finish his playing career with the Raptors:)
If he wants to play for a NBA title he would have to take a drastic salary cut ... If he go with the Raps he could get 30 million dollars for the next 3 years ...

It would be very beneficial to the Raptors but would it be to Nash's career or what's left of it? I see he has a few years left playing ball. Plus it seems like the Raptors have a habit of looking the other (European) way when picking someone.

I think it is good for Canadian basketball and good for Steve. It starts his transition to a new career in a smart way. Good hire.

Didn't he choose not to play for team Canada? I understand that playing in the NBA takes a toll on your body and it is his livelihood and all that. His value to the team would be as others have said..... PLAY. What does he know about being a GM?!!!!!???? Seeing as the program is in need of rebuilding maybe someone with experience would be nice. Put him in an assistant GM role so that he can learn from people who have done this job.

His connection to Jay Triano is also a problem. I hope we don't see Jay back.

And playing for hte Raptors?!!!??? At his price tag and age it would not be worth it. Unless the Raps believe that they are just one PG away from serious playoff contention. Which in my opinion they are not.

The Raptors are going to be 1st round playoff losers at best with or without Nash on their team for the forseeable future unless they win the draft lottery or have a new GM, so no big deal if they sign him. It's not like quality free agents would want to play here. No worse than acquiring Kapono, O'Neal, Turkoglu, Kleiza.

This article i read on Steve Nash makes me think he is qualified for not only this job but many other jobs .

Sure he is bright and successful but just not experienced. BTW how much work does he do for the things you listed or is he just the face and bank? Are all the guys with experience busy?

Skimming the link it looks like he has done a lot of cool things often aligning himself with other bright people. Which is why he would make a great assistnat GM.

If your going to be a person who alignins yourself with other bright people, then isn't GM the position , the position you give him ? Assistant GM's don't hire and aren't responsible for the people below him .

He is a very active owner . One of his passions is solar energy and solar panal company . He was very aggresive in convincing and installing a solar roof on to the Suns practice facility and is aggresive to get other NBA teams particpating in the same practice . This next link shows how his passion in something he associates himself with can go a long way with his name associated with it . Imagine the sponserships Canada basketball can get with Steve Nash's hame associated with it .

The one thing we are on the same side on is Jay Triano . It seems that is a package deal and that maybe his downfall .

Frankcaste .. Steve Yzerman was given a GM post with the Lighting and team Canada . You see every professional sports team and your most likely to see a GM who was once a player . Why putting Gretz as GM of Canada is no different then putting Steve Nash the GM of Canada ? Steve Nash started playing ball in the grass roots of the Canadian system and knows Canadian basketball from the ground up .

I am making a case for Steve Nash but there are many who feel like you too .

I like Nash.

And I was aware that he was not the first player to become a GM in sports. In some cases it doesn't translate being a great player and a great GM can be two different things.

Micheal Jordan being a prime example of that.

All I"m saying is that Nash's celebrity helped him but perhaps a person with more experience and less fame as a player might have been a better choice.

Nash's Pros are that he is
-a good ambassador for the game
-successful
-smart

Other candidates would likely be
-successful
-smart
-experienced

To me building a program that is in the dumps needs experience more than celebrity.

And to be fair. The other candidate would likely have fame just restricted to basketball circles but that is enough.

So I think an experienced GM and Nash on the roster is better for team canada rather than inexpereinced Nash at the helm and not having him on the bench.

We are talking about Baskeball and it's not like their are tons of people who have experince as a GM who are Canadian . Baseball, Hockey and even Baseball have Canadians in GM positions . Unless you want to hire an American you might be out of luck getting a Canadian with GM experience . He does have • Maurizio Gherardini • Glen Grunwald who are presently working for Canada basketball to help him also .

Absolutely I think they should look beyond just Canadians. I should have said that earlier I assumed that it was a given. Sorry, my bad.

If we arer looking to build a program that needs to start right from the beginning why handcuff ourselves to just Canadian talent.

Resume/credentials are more important than nationality in my opinion. Besides we're a cultural mosaic.

On another note . Good news

Tech High School standout Trey Lyles will represent Canada on the Junior Men's National Team next month in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Brazil.

The 6-9 Lyles, an Indiana University recruit, was born in Canada and lived there for a few years. He took part in the USA Basketball Developmental National Team tryouts last summer in Colorado Springs, Colo

Lyles, ranked No. 9 nationally in the 2014 class, will leave for Canada in early June to practice with the team, then travel to Brazil for the tournament June 16-20.

He will be joined on the Canadian team by Andrew Wiggins, the No. 1 prospect in the 2014 class by Rivals .com. A native of Canada, Wiggins plays at Huntington (W.Va.) Prep.

"His skill set

"I know it was a tough decision for him," Tech coach Jason Delaney said. "The feedback from the USA team was that he'd have a good chance to make it. He has a lot of pride in his country. But he was born in Canada, so there's a good opportunity for him on that team as well."

Nash To Raptors Rumors Gaining Momentum

Numerous reports have indicated that Steve Nash is strongly considering signing with the Raptors.

Several NBA personnel executives have confirmed the rumors may have real traction.

"I've been hearing that from people that would know," said one Western Conference executive. "The Raptors may not be ready to win right away, but with (Andrea) Bargnani, (DeMar) DeRozan and maybe (Jonas) Valanciunas coming over next season, they could be pretty decent right away with Nash. And they could have enough cap space to get something done there."

Nash is set to become an unrestricted free agent for the first time since 2004.

The Post’s Marc Berman reported that Nash was asked the quintessential question of almost every player in every sport that hits the free-agent market: Is money or winning a championship more important to where you sign? Nash, at least, was honest.[/B]

“I definitely feel I want to be validated monetarily to an extent,’’ Nash said. “It’s still very important. I think money in many ways represents respect. For example, if you sign with a team and take half or less money, six months later they trade you. It has to be one of the factors. It’s not everything but it is important and will be one of the factors involved.

Toronto is far from his first choice. If he comes here it will for the money. If the Raps sign him I hope it is an incentive loaded contract( if they can do that in the NBA)!

IF he goes to the Heat and wins a Ring .. What will that mean ? The Heat won without him . Joel Anthony won a Ring with the Heat this year
does his legacy increase more ? If Heat lost and Nash signgs then legacy may get larger .
If he goes to the Raptors and the Raps make it to the second round for the first time will his legacy increase more then if he wins a Championship a Championship with a stacked Heat team ?

If he goes anywhere else and takes a huge pay cut is he guaranteed a Championship ? No . He hates the Lakers and so other then the Lakers who is a Steve Nash away from beating the Thunder or the Heat ?
