I guess he'll be doing even more commercials then.
Now where will Dwight end up (does this soften his stance towards a trade to the Lakers).. If LA or NJ it makes a Miami / OKC final the next few years a lot less certain even if the Heat get Allen. Chicago looks pretty pedestrian at this point.
Funny how an organization who gave one of his closest friends ( Jay ) his first coaching gets no love when it comes to where he wants to play . The Knicks who treated one of his other close friends D'Antoni like shit gets preferred treatment over Raps.

when the raps signed Colangelo I thought it was a smart move, I was wrong! He has done nothing for the franchise. where do they go from here? They have JV coming and we really don't know what he will do here. His reviews are good but reviews are just that...REVIEWS! I like Casey but he can only do so much with limited talent. I enjoy the game but would love to watch a Toronto team that had a chance to win every night. It will be interesting to see what Colangelo does between now and the start of the season.

Who fires a coach (who just won coach of the year) for going 8-9? not even a quarter into the season.. Im sure Raptors fans care more about wins than having a Canadian coach.

Can I ask why you don't spend as much time talking about firing the other GM in this city . At least during Colengelo reign he has a division title . Executive of the year and two playoff appearances . Also the fact he isn't going to get fired until at least we see what happens this year makes your post sound like a broken record .

The answer is obvious. Doesn't require an answer!
I hope you are aware your credibility took a huge hit!

They did back in the TJ Ford days when the east was worse than it is now (and I think even now there are only 6 decent teams in the east).. but never got more than a few wins and it's been aimless ever since.

JAY TRIANO NAMED HEAD COACH OF THE CANADIAN SENIOR MEN’S NATIONAL TEAM

Earlier today at a Canada Basketball media conference, Steve Nash, General Manager of Canada’s senior men’s national team, named Jay Triano head coach of the men’s national team.

“I know that Jay is the right man for this job,” declared Nash. “He is a confirmed and respected leader in the basketball community and he has the experience and knowledge to lead us towards our goal of becoming one of the leading basketball nations.”

Triano, 53, becomes the 10th head coach of the senior men’s national team since 1954. The Niagara Falls native has an outstanding coaching pedigree, as well as being an accomplished player and three-time Olympian.

He first worked with the senior men’s national team as assistant coach and in 1998 he took on the role as head coach, which he kept until 2004, posting a 52-42 (.553) record. During this time, Triano led the national team to compete at Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Triano became the first Canadian born and Canadian trained coach in the NBA when he joined the Raptors in 2002 as an assistant coach. He then was promoted to head coach during the 2008-2009 season and held the position until the end of the 2010-2011 season. To add to his international recognition, in 2010 he was named assistant coach for the 2010 USA Basketball Team, becoming the first non-American coach in USA basketball history.

As a player, Triano was on the national team for eleven years (1977-88) and was team captain from 1981-88. He represented Canada in three Olympic Games (1980, 1984 and 1988), serving as team captain in the last two.

“Being an athlete on three different Olympic teams was a great honour, but being able to lead 12 players and a dedicated staff to the Sydney Olympics was even more special,” said newly-named head coach, Jay Triano. “I look forward to working with Steve and Rowan again to put together a staff that will help grow the game of basketball and make our way back to the Olympic Games and prominence on the world stage.”

“This is an exciting time for basketball in Canada and I am excited to embrace the challenge,” added Triano.

Triano also announced his coaching staff that will assist him with the senior men’s national team. The coaches include; Greg Francis (University of Waterloo head coach), Kelvin Sampson (Houston Rockets assistant coach), and Dave Smart (Carleton University head coach).

"Jay's expertise, experience, passion and absolute commitment to Canada make him the ideal head coach,” said President and C.E.O. of Canada Basketball, Wayne Parrish. “Jay Triano is a great Canadian and he understands the importance of a strong basketball program and the influence that will have on the development of basketball in Canada.”

This announcement kicks-off the senior men’s national team training camp which will begin Friday, August 24th and conclude on Tuesday, August 28th at the Air Canada Centre, Raptors Practice Court.

I guess Team Canada is going to play some shitty ass defense.
Unfortunately I agree with you. He sure didn't show much as a coach with the Raps. There are quite a few Canadians in the NBA, I wonder if they will want to play for him? I wish him well but I'm not optimistic.

When push comes to shove, which ones will show up?
There was a period of time when the U.S wasn't sending their best but that changed and it has become something NBA players want to do . Look at the anger which was heard when people were talking about placing a age limit on Olympic basketball . All the big name NBA players were saying no way .

Also there was a time we had one or two token NBA players in Canada and if they didn't show up we were in trouble and now in just the last two years we had have 5 new Canadian NBA players and with guys like Birch, Kabongo, Pangos , Lyles , Anthony Bennet ( who may become the best big Canada will ever produce ) Andrew Wiggins ( best HS player in North America right now ) etc coming that list is going to just get
higher .

Scouts Believe Wiggins Could Be Best Prospect Of Decade
Scouts thought Bargnani was special.
As a Canadian we are all expecting him to be a combination of James and Jordan.
I hope the kid is drafted by a west coast team. If he were to come here the pressure would be tremendous and probably too much for him to handle.
