One of their prime directives is no time travelling.

But, if you could time travel then where are all the time travelers??

Do we wipe ourselves out before we learn how to time travel???

You can slow your time down in comparison to someone else so they age quicker but that is not time travelling

Unless we wipe ourselves out before we learn how to time travel.

But, all is not lost, maybe some space alien will go back in time as a high school project and save us. But, that does not work either.

Because, if you can time travel then that means what exactly??? There is no present and all of time exists in the same moment ??

Does that not mean everything is preordained???

These time travel physicists got some serious explaining to do.

what about moving all our clocks back tonight, does that count as time travel?
Fuck off. Is that tonight? So we set the clock ahead an hour tonight???

I get around.

Star Trek didn't get it wrong, you did. The Temporal Prime Directive is against altering history and changing the timeline. Also forbids speaking of future events in such as way that contemporary people would try to change what is going to happen.

Ok thx for the correction but Star Trek still believes, and even participates in, time travel.

That is what they got wrong

Time travel makes no sense

In Star Trek TOS they never time traveled by choice. There is also the Temporal paradox.

What you must consider are the consequences of changing history. Nobody knows how the world would change. If I went back in time and killed Hitler before he came to power nearly everyone would applaud but by doing so I would disappear since there is no way my father (in the Canadian army) would have met my mother (in the British army). WWII made it happen. Then again millions of people would survive and they would produce children who would never exist in our current world. Quite mind-boggling.
To further boggle you mind, in your alternative history scenario you would have canceled yourself out by killing Hitler and things would have restored itself to where it was because you would have never existed to do the deed. If the ability to time travel were to exist, the time traveler would have to be aware that time is self healing. A time traveler with the ability to contravene time would have to be aware that any changes in time would be restored where it was before or only be altered in minor ways. The time traveler would only have limited ability to change time events or merely be an observer. Imagine a very large room with thousands of elastic bands stretched vertically from floor to ceiling, some of these elastic bands are very close together and others are far apart. Those that are far apart you can step between and those that are very close together you can stretch apart and squeeze through. Once you have stepped away from these elastic bands they snap back to where they were.

ermm.. Isn't time travel basically traveling to another parallel timeline or something like that? So if you change something in that timeline it doesn't necessarily change something in this timeline.

I may be wrong, I love watching sci-fi but I'm not really much of a nerd. LOL

When astronauts return, they are younger than if they had not been orbiting in space.

Is that time travel ?

You can only alter your OWN time by speeding it up or aging quicker or slowing it down in the 4 dimensions known to man kind. Once you get to the 5th dimension you are able to go to any point in your space time or through the 4th dimension by being in the 5th. Question is how do you get to the 5th dimension...some say through death...nobody really knows.

time is not a river that flows but a frozen river that we move along

if we are light years apart our now slice of time would be different if we are not standing still relative to each other

if you could see to the present moment of where I am you would see either my past or future not the present I see

You alter your time through time dilation. i.e. if you orbit the earth really really fast or a black hole your time slows down...if you manage to get far away from any planets or influence of gravity your time will be faster compared to your time on earth. This is simple and we have control. Because you dilate this has no impact on others and how they dilate.

Agree

This is not time travel

Higher dimensions are science fiction where we can travel into and observe, but not change as Star trek claims, all of time
