Isn't this the same guy who supported Indian farmers blocking highways in India? It cost them $8 billion. It's the same situation, so either he's stupid or he's doing it for political gain

OH BOY, this is going to trigger so many righties!!! Quick, get an all-body condom suit, the foaming at the mouth will be dangerous if they are unmasked!!!!

The same people who wanted to send in the military to seize voting machine and overturn an election now condemn JT for using his legal powers to clear bridges, roads and end the attempted extortion of the Canadian government and people.

It anyone is searching for the home of hypocrisy and situational ethics look no further than the righties on both sides of the boarder.

Guess that protest wasn't an American funded attack on the government....

Usually your posts are a little less divorced from reality.

It's patently obvious that the steps Trudeau is now taking go FAR beyond clearing bridges and roads (which are the only preconditions for your extortion claim). There were already a variety of legal means for removing illegally parked vehicles both at the bridge and in Ottawa, so, without any doubt, the purpose of declaring an emergency goes far further. The objective is to prevent the political protests themselves. It's impossible to view it any other way.

When will you understand that you are supporting a totalitarian idiot? Only when you are sitting in a Gulag yourself?

Actually, it's very easy to view it in the correct light. After all, this isn't the war measures act. The Charter is still functioning. This just makes it easier for police to remove illegal protesters. It blocks funds that would support an illegal enterprise, where a lot of the money is coming from foreign sources.

This isn't totalitarianism. That's what the right-wing in the US wants. The ability to overturn elections they lose because of feelings....

Your post agrees with my point that the measures are designed to remove the protesters, not just stop any unlawful conduct

That's exactly what you see in totalitarian states..

This replaced the war measures act, so it's the same. Why he didn't do the same thing when BLM took over the outside of city hall and set up camp? They were also getting funds that supported an illegal enterprise. Hypocrisy at it's finest along with the fact that he supported blockades in India that cost the country $8 billion. I don't agree with the blockades. The Windsor police disbanded the blockade in 2 days. Why couldn't Ottawa police do the same thing? It could have been solved with out invoking the Emergencies act. It's more about incompetence than anything else. I don't expect him to understand because he's clueless and is being told to do things by somebody else.

I think the operative word you seem to be missing is the illegal part. I seem to think that if it was BLM or a First Nations protest, you'd be totally fine with removing them by any means necessary.

First, the Emergencies act and the war measures act are not the same thing. War measures allowed the total lifting of civil rights. That's why they arrested something like 450 people without cause. This new measure still ensures you have your charter rights. So, spinning it as if they are identical is just bullshit.

When did BLM set up camp outside city hall? And did something like that happen during Trudeau's time as PM? If you're remembering the Occupy Wall Street protests where there was a camp in that park by St. James Cathedral....that was under Harper's watch. And the police did evict them after a while.

Ottawa is a different beast than Windsor. There are more trucks and people, and they've dug in. The issue is they should have never allowed the truckers to act the way they did for over a week.

No, I missed nothing. The reason you put "illegal" and "protesters" together is that you, like Trudeau, don't want to acknowledge that there could be any distinction between illegal acts committed by some (and what those acts are, which in Ottawa are mostly parking violations) and the legitimacy of the protests themselves.

I've made this point abundantly clearly, so this is my final pass on this issue for your benefit.

But because you seem not to have a mind for distinctions, let me remind you that the only problem with the 1st nations protests is that they chose to hold them EXCLUSIVELY on rail lands for the sole purpose of blocking rail traffic. Their mere presence on those lands broke the law, nevermind its impact on commerce (far more serious than either Ottawa or even at the Ambassador bridge). The protesters would have been free to come to Ottawa, like the truckers, and voice their grievances. Yet, the government tolerated the rail blockade for weeks. And, in the end, the issue was resolved by court injuctions, not emergency powers. No first nations bank accounts were frozen or seized. Starting to see the difference?
