Whole foods also closed in Chicago last year: https://blockclubchicago.org/2022/1...mising-to-bring-fresh-food-to-the-south-side/

As did Aldi, CVS and Save-a-Lot: https://blockclubchicago.org/2022/0...-less-major-grocer-its-one-hit-after-another/

Reason given:
A spokesperson with Aldi said Monday company leaders made the “difficult decision” to close the store partly because of crime and poor sales.

“Our decision was based on several factors, including repeated burglaries and declining sales,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “Out of concern for our employees and customers, keeping this store open was no longer a sustainable option

And why do you think they were underperforming??

BTW why would you take looting with a grain of salt??
Do you think its no big deal and that it doesnt affect a store's revenue much??
Likely because agreeing would be politically inconvenient for him.

Let's go through the list, Lolly.

Fixed ground rent prices - although probably cheaper than in the burbs.
Fixed staff prices - the same as in the burbs.
Inventory - same price as in the burbs. Less turnover. More wastage.
Far lower sales - people don't have money.
Therefore far less profit.

Illegality issues? - IDK. Would shop lifting be greater in an inner city store that has far fewer customers? I haven't seen the stats. Don't suburban teens and housewives shoplift as well?

Vandalism / graffitti / smashed windows - Probably greater in an inner city location, but I haven't seen stats.
Security costs? - Not sure they would be greater in an inner city location, but again they might be.

You assume that ghetto people shoplift more than suburbans. There might be studies than that, but it's not an automatic assumption on my part.

Some of those inner city people will simply E-train out to the western burbs to shop at the remaining Walmarts in any event. So less overhead and possibly similar sales?

You assume Blacks steal and destroy more than whites because Democrats....

Burglaries means after-hours break-ins, probably planned and targetted with trucks arranged to carry off the loot. It's not a "poverty issue". There are break-ins in Toronto as well. Usually targetted warehouses in industrial districts or parking areas for tractor trailers.

The crime was so bad, they were getting concerned about their employees and their customers

Nah. I just object to poor black people being automatically assumed to be lawless and destructive.
Like I said. Politically inconvenient to agree. Not ALL poor black people of course but enough that it hurts all the rest. Much like the LA riots in the 90s created food deserts. All the items you previously listed are very true but have existed for years. There is no one single cause of course but no doubt there are many tipping points.

I'm happy to agree if you guys cite stats or studies that discuss the whole range of factors and issues.

It's just that I get pissed when I see over-simplified bullshit. I'm not the "political" poster on this point. It's you guys who're going to tell me it's all black people and Dems being "soft on crime", right?

Well, I supposed if you're american you can always keep voting for sheriffs like this guy.
Maybe they can bring back the glory days of segregation for you.

The only crimes that were down in 2022 were shootings and murders.
Everything else went up

It started.
It will, and is spreading.
Has nothing to do with weak leadership.
Greed of the powers that rule.
Has to do with the ever widening gap of classes, shitty economy, scarcer resources, etc etc etc.
This should not be a surprise to anyone.
When people’s backs are against the wall, “these civilized people will eat each other.”
All the signs have been there for decades:
Most care about Starbucks, Kardashians, new dumb reality tv shows, their social media, and how they wish to be perceived IRL and on socials via consumption of goods we don’t really need.

Bread and circuses.

All the while our beautiful Earth burns, people step on one another for what they need and humanity continues to decline.
We had our chance I guess.

The - US based - crime rates by race are well documented. The - US based - scholastic achievement by race in the US is well documented. Most 'results' by race are well documented. You can correctly argue root causes all you want but in the here-and-now, it doesn't matter. History clearly has an effect on the present. For all of us. But man, your own personal choices and behaviors and general outlook on life are FAR more relevant in determining your outcomes than what happened to your grandma, I promise you.

The ones that don't talk guns or display guns are the ones to be careful of.
The ones that hoot and holler are all noise and cowards.
I know a lot of Americans, and have regular contact with, they are quiet, average, well employed everyday people. None of them hoot and holler, most have had military service and hunt. All of them own a shitload of guns. No bravado or cowardice, not to be fucked with.

Yeah, looting maybe??
Looting is "robbery" not "burglary". So perhaps the spokesperson is just shooting from the hip, rather than giving precise information.

More good daily news coming from Chicago:

Apparently a white woman tried to intervene between a group of black kids that were trying to beat up another black kid, and so she ended up getting pummeled too. Chicago's version of Jenesis?

Mandrill's favorite newly elected mayor expressed predictable sentiments at the chaos.

Talking about predictable - DC Draino - (assuming that that's even a real person) - does the usual MAGA-bot thing, as he/ she / it / whatever always does.

White women don't get pummeled in Red States?
