This is Canada, kill 20 people and get out after 25 years.
If you kill one, any more will be freebies. Serial and mass murderers will love this SCOC.
Of course, what else do we expect from a lefty SCOC?

The majority of the current Supreme Court justices were appointed by Stephen Harper. He was such a notorious "lefty."
I think the pool of available judges in Canada are/were all lefties (unlike the U.S.). Anyway, these same judges ruled that consecutive sentences (the Harper Amendment) is unconstitutional.

How does that work, genius?

Are you saying that all the lawyers in Canada are "lefties" and that means all the judges in Canada have to be "lefties"? Explain how - apparently, according to you - only "lefties" get into law school. Is this because "lefties" have a higher IQ than people like you?

Or does it mean that there's some secret conspiratorial rule that keeps people like you out of law school and just lets "lefties" in?

Or do non-"lefties" get into law school and then get magically transformed into "lefties"?

You're a smart guy, Dartsy. So impress me and explain this to me.

Unconstitutional or too expensive to house?
There’s always some economical motivation behind everything they do. I don’t believe for a single second they give a Damn about the rights of inmates when they don’t even care about the people who are victimized by those who receive the consecutive sentence.

I’ll be waiting to hear the true motivation for this… ugh.

Questions:
1) Does anyone doubt that Ontario and Canada are left wing bias?
2) Does anyone doubt that Ontario is left wing bias? The Liberals and NDP usually collect over 50% of the popular votes. The Conservatives usually under 40%.
3) Does anyone doubt our universities are left wing bias? (When I was in university I use to tell co-eds that I was a communist. They were always impressed.)
4) Does anyone doubt our media is left wing bias?
5) Does anyone doubt our courts and lawyers are left wing bias? So, why would we be surprised when judges/courts hand down generous sentences? Just look at the generous sentence for Bruce McArthur who murdered 8 men as an example.

"73% of academics sampled from 40 top-ranked Canadian universities identified as left-wing, 4% as right-wing."

On the other hand, some members blame the "righties" for every problem and/or suffer TDS.

What you call "left wing bias" is simply that the majority of people in Canada have different political views that you. You just admitted in in #2 above. That being the case, you perceive everything as "biased" because you're non mainstream.

But you still haven't answered my question. If there's a loyal large minority of smart, intelligent, brilliant right of centre people in Canada, why aren't they getting into law school? Law school is picked based on academic grades and the LSAT.

And let's go through the governments. Most of them are Tory. Why don't those Tory governments seek out right wing lawyers and appoint them to the Bench? It's a conspiracy, right? Harper was a secret commie? Ford is a secret commie? How else do you explain all the commie, leftie judges?!

Or it could be that Harper and Ford actually appoint judges with mainstream, current Canadian views and attitudes and you don't like that and think the system is rigged?

Damn, you're right. I do blame the GOP senate caucus for filibustering the latest Dem attempt at a gun control bill. Without them 19 kids would still be alive.

How unreasonable of me!

Like it or not, the underlying philosophy of our corrections system in Canada is really rehabilitation rather than punishment. With this in mind, the SCC ruled that consecutive 25y without parole was cruel and unusual- there would be no opportunity for an inmate to demonstrate that he had rehabilitated.

Now 25 years is just the time to be eligible to apply. Parole would still have to be approved and for many of these mass killers, serial sexual predators/ killers, they won’t stand a chance and the bar (pun intended) will be very high for them to demonstrate that they have rehabilitated to a point that they have an extremely low chance of recidivism and no longer pose a thread to society.

Long story short. Why don't you just admit you agree consecutive sentences is cruel and unusual punishment and is unconstitutional and parole eligibility should be no more than 25 years?
