I wonder how much pressure she was under as a result of this prank. Very sad!

http://news.sky.com/story/1022287/royal-prank-call-nurse-commits-suicide

A hospital nurse caring for the Duchess of Cambridge, who was duped by two DJs pretending to be the Queen and Prince Charles, is understood to have committed suicide.

Jacintha Saldanha, who has worked at the hospital for four years, was found at an address near the hospital.

The Two Australian DJs telephoned the King Edward VII Hospital and asked to be put through to the ward where Kate was being treated for severe morning sickness.

Miss Saldanha answered the call and put them through to the ward where the Duchess was being cared for, another nurse there updated them on her condition.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Police were called at approximately 9.35am this morning to a report of a woman found unconscious at an address in Weymouth Street, W1.

"London Ambulance Service attended and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Inquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances of the incident.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage."

London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 9.25am to an address in Weymouth Street. We sent 2 ambulances crews and a duty officer, sadly the patient was dead at the scene."

Michael Christian and Mel Greig, DJs on the 2DayFM radio station, broadcast their call to the hospital on Wednesday morning.

Miss Greig, who was impersonating the Queen, asked to speak to her "granddaughter, Catherine" and managed to persuade Miss Saldanha to put her through to the ward where Kate was being treated.

The King Edward VII Hospital released a statement which said: "It is with very deep sadness that we confirm the tragic death of a member of our nursing staff, Jacintha Saldanha.

"Jacintha has worked at the King Edward VII's Hospital for more than four years. She was an excellent nurse and well-respected and popular with all of her colleagues.

"We can confirm that Jacintha was recently the victim of a hoax call to the hospital. The hospital had been supporting her throughout this difficult time."

In a statement from St James's Palace, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said they were "deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jacintha Saldanha".

The statement said: "Their Royal Highnesses were looked after so wonderfully well at all times by everybody at King Edward VII Hospital, and their thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha's family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time."

those australian raadio DJ's are gonna get a bad media backlash. I don;t think what they did was wrong this nurse probably had previous mental issues and was obviously unfit to work. If she was really excellent and well respected she would have laughed it off and not killed herself

What they did was fraud. But I am not surprised you think it was okay.

Her reaction is very sad, and unfortunate, and disproportionate, but there is no doubt that what the DJs did was fraud.

All hospitals have protocols for patient info requests.....so someone dropped the ball on this one.....albeit committing suicide is a bit over the top.....gee...wonder how the DJ's are feelin right about now???

impersonating a Royal is severely frowned upon...and since Australia is a part of the Commonwealth....me thinks the shit will fly....might not have been as harsh ..had it not resulted in a death..(.however it happened..!!)...but yeah... I dont think this is going to go quietly into the night

Wrong. She was well liked and respected.

HOSPITAL STATEMENT:

The hospital said this afternoon: 'It is with very deep sadness that we confirm the tragic death of a member of our nursing staff, Jacintha Saldanha.

Posted on radio station Face book page after news of nurses death was released;

“This death is on your conscience,” reads one post. Another says, “Blood on your hands.”

This is not over. The lawyers on TERB can post on this point, but I suspect there are charges possible, should the family of the nurse or authorities want it. The DJ's are definitely in for a shit storm.

With all due respect to msog87, I don't think you understand how serious the Brits take their Monarchs. Maybe now you might have some small understanding. To say "this nurse probably had previous mental issues and was obviously unfit to work", and your name is Dr. what........and how many times have you talked to "this nurse" to make that observation?
Do I agree with what the Australian DJ's did, from a Canadian point of view, ahh it was not so bad, but from a British point of view, don't fool around with the Monarchs.
I'm just sayin.....

The prank alone was harmless. It would not cause anyone to commit suicide.

It would be very very very stupid to link the suicide to the prank call as anything but coincidence.

But as you can see people and the media have done so, on no grounds whatsoever. It is this attitude and mentality of jumping to unfounded conclusions that causes bullying which can lead to suicide.
I can absolutely see this happening ...when it involves the Royals....the Brits put far too much emphasis on these Royals....and no doubt...knowing the brits ...there were probably death threats..and the like

you got it all wrong, it wasnt the nurse who did all the talking who committed suicide, the one who gave out private info. it was the first nurse who transferred the call to the second nurse. its the second nurses job to verify the details and then proceed. the media has spun this if you quickly glance and read an article it gives you the wrong impression of who actually died. The media is horrible now these 2 radio dj's are gonna get all this hate from the ignorant masses and will probably lose their job

A London nurse at the centre of a royal phone prank by Australian radio presenters is dead.
Police are not treating the death of Jacintha Saldanha as suspicious, a Scotland Yard spokesman said.
She was unable to be revived after being found unconscious at an address near London's exclusive King Edward VII Hospital at 9.35am local time on Friday.
'It is with very deep sadness that we confirm the tragic death of a member of our nursing staff, Jacintha Saldanha,' said a statement issued by the hospital.
'Jacintha has worked at the King Edward VII Hospital for more than four years. She was an excellent nurse, well respected and popular with all of her colleagues.
'We can confirm that Jacintha was recently the victim of a hoax call to the hospital. The hospital had been supporting her throughout this difficult time.'
Earlier in the week Sydney's 2Day FM presenters Mel Greig and Michael Christian called the hospital impersonating the Queen and Prince Charles as they sought details of a patient, Prince William's pregnant wife, Catherine.
The pair used toffy voices as they were patched through to a ward nurse looking after the Duchess of Cambridge, who relayed confidential details of Catherine's condition.
The 'joke' made global headlines as the actions of the 2Day FM duo were widely criticised.
A hospital spokesman labelled the prank call 'foolish', while the facility announced a review of telephone protocol and considered legal action against the radio network.
Greig and Christian have since apologised for the 'lighthearted' prank.

yea all the articles are pretty shit, was it the nurse that gave out the info, or was it the switchboard person that was found dead.
Ambiguity, sensationalism, prank, death, princess, newborn.

Keep it in the back of your mind - but it all helps to raise emotional connection and awareness about a lackluster purposeless monarchy.

It's not a mystery nor unclear to most. The switchboard nurse, who allowed the call to go through to the care nurse was distraught, right or wrong, over her part in the situation and toke her life. To her, it didn't matter that she didn't give out the information.
