My wife will not let me cancel the home phone so I canceled the $60/ month Rogers and switched to $5/month ooma with absolutely zero change in service reliability.
Your wife must really like calls from air duct cleaning or other telemarketers 😆 I cancelled my landline because they're the only ones that called me and usually at dinner time.

A cellphone makes a landline redundant IMO and I can screen out any calls that aren't on my contact list.

The air duct cleaning marketers are always good for a little abuse. Call it a guilty pleasure.

  1. Anytime you talk with them while renewing a contract, always mention that you have seen some great deal from the competition. The agents will get a chance to give you the retention offer. Agents can't give that offer unless there is a cancellation trigger from the customer. It is a win-win for both because you get the best plan available, and the agent gets to say that he/she managed to retain a customer.
  2. I observe this with seniors. They are generally more loyal to the company, but the thing is they get charged too much and they don't realize it. If you know any senior member, might be parents, grandparents, or even your neighbors, ask them if you can see their latest bill. You try to spend some time talking to other companies for a cheaper plan, get that cheaper plan, and talk to Rogers where you make those seniors admit that you can talk on behalf of them and try to get the best deal for them, if required use the first step. Remember, you spending probably 2 or 3 hours can save them at least 1000 bucks over the next two years of the contract period. This will help them a lot, especially if they are someone who is living on a pension. Also, let those seniors know it's perfectly fine to leave a company if it is not offering services properly, and porting out wireless and home phone is a simple process and probably takes 1 week in total.
I will try to add some more if something strikes me .
There are legit reasons to cancel a plan like having a vaction property, long-term travel, etc.. These people can't use their TV, internet or home phone while abroad so they should be able to cancel them. That's not good enough for the telcos though and they stick people with a reconnection fee.

The 2-3 hours spend on the phone with service is not worth it if you're still working. Even if you're not working, most people have better things to do than spend that time getting bounced around the call centre. I don't get why the telcos don't allow us to cancel online and get the discounted rate. That would save them tons of money on staffing and reduce the queues too.

I'm not sure why you're defending lousy business practices since you don't work for them anymore. Of course they don't want us to cancel becuase it's lost revenue. They actually benefit by making it easier (not tougher) for us to cancel. They can still present a discount just before the cancellation goes through. This frees up people in the call center.

I found that if you get caught in those voice telephone systems speak English say what you want and adjusts files you into that category, simply talk like the character on family Guy OPIE the system, Kant sorted out and will automatically dump you to alive voice I’ve tried it a couple of times it works.

Just wow.....So after 13 calls over 2 months with each call being 1-2.5 hours. After being lied to, hung up on, left on hold and being thrust into the cyclone of call transfers I finally get a call from the Rogers final boss. He happened to catch me at a moment I was very cool, calm and collected and I managed to lay everything out for him without yelling. (probably because I wasn't just subjected to an hour of hold music before conversing) For my troubles he waived my next two bills. Now I went into it hoping for 1 free month so when he said 2 I was pretty pleased. Considering every agent I talked to said Rogers doesn't compensate customers for their time it kinda feels like a victory in the grand scheme of things but sadly it works out to probably about $7 an hour for my time. I guess the squeaky wheel does get the oil. Even if it's just a drop or two....

I just deleted my post about Rogers thinking it was too extreme. Then I went from the kitchen back into the bedroom where my tv conked out yet again. Average 3 times a night. Never had this with Shaw. Where am I living? Biafra? Rogers sucks cock and takes your money.

They'd better have a blue handle, if they want to promote here.

Bell and Rogers are the "Kang and Kodos" of the telecom world.

Bell drives me insane and they are only interested in "new clients" and will always pound you if you are an existing customer. And the call centers are always in the Philippines now and that just ramps up the frustration level through the roof

I was with Rogers for about 20 years.
I got smart and started asking for competitive discounts, which they never ended up giving to me.
So I just switched to Bell. I can't say that Bell is better than Rogers, but I'm glad I switched.

I still get calls from Rogers offering me deals, and Rogers representatives still come to my door.
I always say "I had Rogers for 20 years and got fed up, so I switched to Bell... come back to me in 20 years."

Yep, the last Bell rep that I talked to, put me on hold and I could hear chickens cackling in the background, thought it was a TV show. When he came back on the phone, I asked him and he said the chickens were in his backyard, I asked where he was and Yep, he said in the Philippines.

I went to a Rogers store to drop off my modem last week, they wouldn't let me in unless i stared into the camera and showed my drivers license. I understand crime is bad, but wtf is that? Are they even allowed to do that?

So just had to deal with Rogers. I had a modem I returned and they charged me for not returning.

30 mins, 3 people. All fixed.

I like that you can to ship the returns now. Not just drop them to a store. I would have no record of the return if I didn’t have the tracking number.

Would you be in the hot seat, if you took a movie with your phone of you calling them on it while there, and advising them you are going to leave it by the door, like an amazon delivery and walk away.
