Wow this is hard to take. My hero as a 8 year old kid up to now.

Saw him often at the old forum.

Met him a few times after his career. Spoke with him at his Mikes restaurant in Berthieville. He was helping tending the bar.

Great humble guy.

I was there at the Forum when he had the longest standing ovation for scoring a goal... as a New York Rangers!!! :ROFLMAO:
Just a Classic Guy.. Man

From the Video...Love Love Love No Helmet... Old Time Hockey

The True Love and Respect for Guy, coming back to face His Former Team at the Montreal Forum..True Hockey Fans!

Makes Me feel sad, when a Hockey Legend leaves Us... How mortal We all are...Rest well

A tragic waste of talent. If I remember correctly he was even in the running for Canadian Major Junior Player of the Year.
He actually was the CHL player of the year in his 4th year of junior.
155 points in.60 games. That was helped a fair bit by Bill Laforge all out system, but no matter the system those numbers are crazy.

Lafleur has an assist for 184 of shut’s 406 goals. They are still the most prolific combo in the nhl. Its very rare that 2 winger were able to connect together like that. Usually its a center/winger combo.
Seems like it’s the most prolific wing to wing combo, but not forward combo.

184 is a huge number but my thought when I saw that stat was that Gretzky/Kurri had to be higher.

I did a google and found a list with the other higher combos as
Gretzky-Kurri 365
Bossy-trottier 305
Henri-Daniel sedum 217
Howe-Delvecchio 207
Taylor-Dionne 181
Shutt-lafleur 179

All of the above did involve one Center.

I think Ovechkin-Backstrom are probably on the list as of now.

No Clarke-Barber or Clarke-Leach?

According to the list I found they were #16 and #21, at 161 and 156 assists respectively. As of 2014.

If Matthews and Marner stick together for a while I can see them getting as high as #3.

I think those are total points for a single season?

And lafleur and shutt were 2 wingers.

It can't be single season.

It is how many times somebody assisted on a linemate's goal in their career.

My goodness what a great clip - to hear Danny Gallivan again..."gingerly" lol....what a treat. The man was poetry. And Don Cherry, Scottie Bowman, Biiiigg Rooooobinsoooonnnn, and of course the great Guy Lafleur in his prime in the old Forum...when hockey was hockey. RIP Guy.
Danny was so excitable, completely the opposite of René Lecavalier on the French broadcast... "Cournoyer, a Lemaire, a Lambert, et la, la but".

Great job by Serge Savard to get in Marcotte's way.

Guy played six seasons in Quebec City in Junior Hockey, (age 15-20), with the Aces and Remparts, so he wasn't exactly a stranger in town.

Quebec City is known for having very hot women. Locals say it's because in the 1600's when boats carrying les filles du Roi arrived from France, Montreal got the girls that the guys in Quebec City didn't want, sort of like when hashish is smuggled by boat; all the best product gets snapped up in Sept-Iles.
The old Colisee de Quebec was built by Jean Beliveau and paid off by Guy Lafleur.

"The Canadiens owned the rights to Beliveau, so he couldn’t play for another pro team unless Montreal traded him. Since the Aces were an amateur team, there was no conflict with his staying there. Finally, Montreal purchased the entire Quebec Senior Hockey League, turned it pro and added Jean Beliveau to their roster. Without much choice in the matter, Beliveau signed on with the Canadiens in 1953 for a then unheard-of $100,000 contract over five years.”"

You are indeed correct he was the CHL (formerly CMJHL) player of the year in 1988-89. Sakic won the award the year prior. To put up that many points as a defenseman is otherworldly. Also noteworthy very few defensemen have won this award. Ryan Ellis in 2010-11 is the last one. What a tragic waste of talent.

Bergeron played a big role in bringing The Flower to New York. Phil Esposito was the GM at that time.
Yes but still he had doubts. He called Esposito who immediately said bring him to training camp in Trois-Rivières. First day of camp there was 1km line of cars to get into the venue :)

Didn't they room him with John Kordic when he was with the Nordiques?

Confirmed today that Lafleur will have state funerals. 3rd sportsman only after Rocket Richard and Jean Beliveau.
