A part of a very small, invitation only, Discord discussion group(ever been on Discord? You should check it out), composed mostly of teenagers shooting shit while playing video games. The "racism " is the usual teenaged banter not unlike what's in here, including homophobia(the group's name has something to do with gay porn), and the leaks themselves were for no other reason than to make points in the run of the mill current events conversations within the group. What he did was wrong, but to assign political agenda to it or aims beyond usual Discord bullshit is, to put it mildly, fucking idiotic.

Nobody "outed the guy". The information bounced from forum to forum on Discord and Twitch until it ended up on Telegram and was picked up by some, maybe, Russian or antiwar posters who highlighted the information to the media.
Bellingcat did the investigative work to find the discord server, then using social media posts confirm the identity of the stupid 21 year old who tried to win a debate on the internet.
It wasn't US intel, they acted afterwards.

No, I don't think the leaker was involved in altering the documents either.
He was just an idiot trying to win an internet debate.
Some of the numbers were changed though afterwards.
But whether other points, like Putin having cancer, are legit is up for discussion.
The leaker is a fragile online snowflake who posted the info to impress his teenaged online posse.
