I only watch about 3 hours of TV per month and for the past 5 years every series I've watched has been by just purchasing the DVD box set.

I find purchasing the DVD box set and watching a season of a series over a period of 10 days or so a million times more enjoyable than watching 22 episodes over 8 months.

In any case Breaking Bad, Weeds, and Veronica Mars are on my radar now and I'm just wondering if anyone has seen any of these and has any notions about whether they are woth getting. I haven't seen a minute of any of these series.
Thanks for your input.

I agree with you on buying the box-set of DVDs and watching the entire seasons in a short amount of time as opposed to watching each new episode a week

In terms of the shows you mentioned, I still haven't been able to get through the few episodes of Breaking Bad, though I've tried multiple times, but everyone else I've talked to said the show is amazing, and gets better every season
Veronica Mars was amazing the first season, decent the second, and then not so good in the third. However the first season is really really good. Weeds was okay the first couple seasons, but gets absurd and ridiculous by the third season. Mary-Louise Park (who plays the main character) is a stone-cold fox though

Breaking Bad starts off slow as does any series, but it get good at the end, not sure how they will continue with the next seasons though as..... well I shouldn't say how it ends.
I watch it on watch-series.com, this way its free and ready to watch when I have the time.

Weed I never really got into, never heard to Veronica, but the show Son's of Anarchy is also a good one to watch.

You could also download them on torrents, then decide if you want to buy the DVD.

I think there are active torrents for all episodes of Breaking Bad at http://eztv.it/. Type breaking bad in the search box then click the search button, (or pick breaking bad from the -- select show -- list box). You should also be able to find episodes from the last couple of seasons of Weeds there easily, but shows from the first five seasons may be more difficult to find - Breaking Bad is a much more popular show for people who collect TV series.

The files from EZTV will be in Xvid video format, and very close to 350 MB for a show that's an hour long when aired with commercials, (commercials are removed from the files that are posted there). You can watch them on your computer with VLC media player, which plays all video formats, without you having to separately install various audio and video codecs, (divx, xvid, ac3, ogg vorgis, etc. - they're all built in). Get VLC media player free at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Veronica Mars would be a bit harder to find, as it's been off the air for several years. Xvid caps of the three seasons were posted on tv-vault, (a private torrent tracker which only has shows that have been off air for at least four years), earlier this week. I'm a big time TV series collector, (about 4 TB of shows), and when I go in an HMV, it's rare that I see anything interesting in the TV section that I don't already have, or can't easily obtain.

You may well want to own BB, VM, and W on DVD, but there are alternatives that will only cost you bandwidth.

Watch them all online.

Save your money and watch all the episodes of each show and anything else here:

Breaking Bad

Veronica Mars

Weeds

Click on the season you want, then click on the episode, then click on the source on the right (Gorillavid or Vidxden is best), click the white play arrow in or at the bottom of the box while clicking off the pop ups and you're good to go.

You can also use up a lot of bandwidth watching full episodes online. Depending on which ISP you use, it could cost you $$$ if you exceed your cap. Downloading a show gives you the option of keeping it, but at the cost of a lot of disk space. Ask yourself if you would rather have four seasons of Breaking Bad on DVD, or an hour with a higher end escort - the cost is comparable.

Yes but that would happen if you watch too much in bunches.. I say space it out. 2-4 episodes a week for example.

Question.. How does one look up their Rogers cap or current bandwidth usage?

I really liked Veronica Mars. Breaking Bad is also very good, and still ongoing, so you won't seem like a freak for talking about it. I haven't watched Weeds, but if it's being recommended alongside those two, perhaps I should.

Breaking Bad I survived 3 episodes and gave up, all the characters were completely unlikable, Weeds I watched the first season and lost interest, Veronica Mars if you like the whole teen drama thing then go for it, not for me. Sorry to be a party pooper :)

Yeah, teen drama sums up Veronica Mars. Definitely appeals to a younger crowd. I'd say mid to late 20s at the high end.
I also wasn't a fan of Breaking Bad. Just not for me.
Weeds is a confusing one. It had potential and story line, it was just too slow to develop for me.
Even if you're a smoke-weed-erryday type of person, it's difficult to get into.

You gave up before the lawyer joined the cast of chararcters. I think Sal is his name. Such a loveable guy. LOL

Seriously though, the characters evolve over the course of several seasons. They all have flaws, but at various times, they show redeeming qualities and its hard not to like them at those times.

Better call Sol.

Played by Bob Odenkirk. He was good as Larry Sanders' agent.

That's why it's called Breaking Bad and not Making Crystal Meth for Fun and Profit!. But the acting is really top notch. Also the music is great at times, this show is where I first learned about Ana Tijoux

do this... buy yourself a megaupload account for ten dollars/month and go to icefilms. it'll save you frustration from dead links, slow torrents etc. plus they have so many other shows to choose from as well as movies

I also love Breaking Bad. Sly humor, intense drama, chemistry 101, damanged but lovable characters. Tv at its best.:thumb:

Breaking Bad is a definite for me and I just looked up Ana Tijoux thanks Matt you roxx. ;) (yeah bad joke)

Another couple to consider would be The Wire if you haven't already watched it as it's a much older show or Game of Thrones though it's entirely different genre than what's been suggested, still I think it's an excellent show and at the rate you are watching these shows Season 2 should be completed by time you are done Season 1.
