I watch all those type of series at once.

The Wire - excellent
Breaking Bad - excellent
Sons of Anarchy - personal favourite
Boardwalk Empire - excellent
Californication - maybe the best series ever.
24 - bought 4 seasons. Watching season 1 was like having teeth pulled. The worst acting ever by the Mother and daughter. Have not watched any more.

Go to your local flea market and buy them. About $10 for a complete uncut season.

Breaking Bad is the best thing I've (personally) seen on television. I'm not much of a 'typical' t.v person.... I can't stand sitcoms and reality television but BB has be hooked (lol no pun intended). The cinematography alone makes it worth watching, so pair that with stellar acting and a great script and you can't really go wrong. I'm devastated that the next season is probably the last!
Totally agree. I think it is the best cinematography I have seen on TV, with very impactful effects (especially the use of color). They have already indicated how Breaking Bad will end, but the important thing is how we end up there.

Can't go wrong with breaking bad. Each season gets progressively better.

I would highly recommend something different like British shows within the last decade, ones ya wont have to sit through an entire season till "it gets better" just off the top of my head are Shameless, Being Human, MI-5 and for teenagers without all the angst spin shows like Skins and Misfits.

I get them from Netflix. Can't wait for the Breaking Bad season just ended to come out. I don't think Weeds is as good but it's funny and entertaining. Californication is excellent and hilarious. And just ask Don Draper about Mad Men. Like you, I like it better when you can watch them all at once.

Okay, thanks for all those series ideas.
I bought the first 2 seasons of Breaking Bad last night and watched the first disc in one sitting.
It's very good. The actors are really strong for a TV series. Bryan Cranston is great, and so is the guy who plays his wack out partner.
The DEA brother in law reminds me of Detective Mackey from 'The Shield'. Has a funny way of expressing himself.

I was worried BB would be like Prison Break for me. I bought the first season of Prison Break a few years ago and watched the first 3 episodes and it just wasn't connecting with me for some reason; so, I dropped it.
And then a year later I gave it a second try because it had so many rabid fans and I was curious if I was missing something. The second time I really got hooked by Prison Break. Watched the first 3 seasons in like 2 weeks.

I'm kind of sketchy about Weeds. Not sure if that one is going to click with me.
I'm going to get Veronica Mars because I've read it's not some goofy Nancy Drew thing. It's supposed to dark and subversive and it's got whip smart writing.

I thought Weeds was OK for the first two or three seasons, but then it lost me. I think her personality was too cutesy for the supposedly serious situations she was getting herself into and the characters became a little too unbelievable for me to suspend reality.

Love Breaking Bad and I agree with the earlier reco of The Wire. Best police show of all time and one of my all-time favourite shows. Complex plot lines and you need a good grasp of ebonics to know what they're saying.

Agree about The Wire. Probably one of the top 5 series I've ever seen. Picked up all 5 seasons of The Wire a couple of years ago based on people talking about it here and watched all 5 seasons inside of about 5 weeks. Couldn't put it down. Best police show ever.

Have you noticed how many actors from the Wire keep popping up on other series? Same with actors from Deadwood.

Agreed. I forced myself to watch last couple of seasons because I invested myself in the first few but don't know if I can handle another season.

Breaking Bad is a definite for me and I just looked up Ana Tijoux thanks Matt you roxx. ;) (yeah bad joke)

Another couple to consider would be The Wire if you haven't already watched it as it's a much older show or Game of Thrones though it's entirely different genre than what's been suggested, still I think it's an excellent show and at the rate
you are watching these shows Season 2 should be completed by time you are done Season 1.
+1 for Game of Thrones.

The Wire is the best show to ever air on television. I've never seen anything like it ever, but Breaking Bad is also very good. After you watch those two series just sell your tv.

another BB homer .. great, great show. Another good show was BBC's Life on Mars. Only 24 episodes (which they just repeat all episodes on the local PBS station here). A cop is hit by a car and awakes in 1973 Manchester UK.
