I was watching a special on the Pussycat Dolls (PCD) and I was surprised to learn how little is left of the original PCD. When they started out, they were a dance troupe from Hollywood. That much I already knew, but when they became a musical pop act they pretty much gutted the original members. I don't think there's even one original member left. It's like the music company liked the concept of the PCD but dropped all the original members and upgraded to the current lead singer and better looking (younger) support members.

It's almost like there were two PCD groups. The pre-singing version and the post-singing version.

Could have done without the graphic puking scenes - not really needed to add to the "Plot" Did find it interested how the girls were forced to audition even though they were really sick - does mimic real life - the show must go on. Just like all the great ass!!!

I know the original pusscat dolls were all starlets, Carmen Electra, Drew Barrymore (I think) etc who, like Keanu Reeves, wanted to form a group. Only thing was the concept caught on and they became famous and popular. I don't think the original PCD wanted to do it full time all the time so the group morphed into what it is now.

That's my understanding anyhow....

Back in 90's they were doing shows at the Viper Room in LA , which Depp owned partially. Not founded by Depp as far as I remember.

No, the PCD started out as a dance troupe of no-name video/backup dancers. They auditioned one night at Depp's Viper Room and he was so impressed that he gave them their own regular night. As a result, the group gained its cache and celebrity chicks became interested. That's when Carmen Electra got involved and became the de facto "leader" of the pack for several years. Christina Applegate was another regular, but Christina Aguilera and a bunch of other Hollywood starlets all participated at one time or another.

As the PCD gained in status, they expanded from the Viper Room and became interested in singing as a result of Gwen Stefani guesting with them. That's when the music company became involved. The PCD lineup was gutted (totally, as far as I can tell) and replaced with better looking chicks and a lead singer (Nicole) who could actually sing. The other girls do sing on the record, but they're reduced to the backup "Ewws" and "Ahhs" rather than any substantial singing parts. At this point, the PCD really became an entirely different entity based off the concept of the previous PCD group.

So really, there were three eras. First, the original PCD group who were a pseudo-burlesque dance troupe of unknowns. Then it morphed into the second PCD group that had Carmen Electra, Christina Applegate, and a variety of other celebrity guests. Then it morphed again into the current incarnation that has become pop stars.

And yes, I now know far too much about the PCD.

LOL Keeb, thanks for clearing that up!! BTW why DO you know so much about them? Oh yeah, they have hot chicks in the group, that's enuff reason for any red blooded Canadian Male lol.

Sorry, my bad, I thought it was Drew Barrymore but it was Christina Applegate.
