Psychopath/Sociopaths are not rare. Approximately 1% of the population are psychopaths. The myth that they are violent makes it seem so. The serial killers are the minority of the psychopath population. Most psychopaths are highly functioning by societies standards and pass as "normal" until you get to know them.
Robert Hare is an excellent source of information and considered the leading authority on it. He developed the Psychopathy Checklist/Revised ,wrote Snakes in Suits: When Psychopaths go to Work and Without Conscience. He also founded Aftermath: Surviving Psychopathy which is a online forum for information and support of those dealing with psychopaths. He is professor emeritus at UBC and has spent 30 years devoted to the research and understanding of this. A good site for links is www.hare.org.
We have all crossed paths with psychopaths tho sometimes we never end up on their radar. When you do, YOU WILL KNOW IT...
