I spoke to a guy shortly before election, he is a Canadian hailing from Israel who does a lot of fairly serious business with US. As an israeli (and, perhaps, for other reasons as well) he felt that trump is better than the dems. He also however had the decency to admit that trump is a rare piece of shit and that trump is acceptable only because the dems are even worse. He felt that this is a sad state of affairs and we agreed on that.
But claiming that trump is great or his deplorables are great or thinking that this victory is amazing is just so incredibly stupid. And attempting to convince of that themselves or others is absolutely pathetic. Why can't they just be happy about the win? No, they need to justify that obvious filth because they want to be righteous. Sanctimonious fools.

Well considering the Dems spent the last 4 years undemocratically trying to prevent him from running for office and failed miserably, I would say the GOP has earned the right to do a bit of gloating about the win.

Let me see, 4 indictments, 2 impeachments, several attempts to remove him from the ballot, 2 assassination attempts, and it would have taken a 276K vote swing in 4 states (MI, NV, WI and PA) to flip the outcome. Compared to less electors and a 43K vote swing in 3 states (GA, AZ, WI) to have tied the election and turned it over to the state delegates in the house and senate, (basically each state has one vote from its representatives), which I believe would have Republicans favoured in 26 states and would likely have handed the election to Trump. God forbid there ever is another tie, and the last one was 1800. Could you imagine what is would have been like in 2020. Yes, I would say way more impressive. What are your thoughts?

There's this phenomenon whereby people with above average intelligence project their political beliefs on to the concept of democracy. Basically, democracy is everything they want their government to be doing. Everyone who doesn't share their view is dumb, stupid or some other deficiency of character.
It's not exclusively a progressive belief system. We all know people on the right who think the country will go down the tubes if we elect a progressive. If you ask these individuals lefr or right what is democracy, they might likely read off a list of government policies and direction. Progressives in this time appear to be more vocal and emotional in their charge.
However, I would say the United States is a relatively conservative country which has demonstrated success and resiliency amongst the Western nations. Progressive leaders and their followers around the Western world do have reason to be concerned.
