The backlash continues. Two U.S. senators are urging Attorney General Merrick Garland and Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter to scrutinize the PGA Tour's planned alliance with the DP World Tour and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and oppose the deal if it reduces competition in violation of federal antitrust laws. In a letter sent to Garland and Kanter on Tuesday, a copy of which was obtained by ESPN, Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Ron Wyden, D-Ore., wrote that although details of the proposed alliance are unclear, "the red flags regarding antitrust concerns are clear." The senators wrote that the proposed alliance "enable the Saudi Government to sportswash its egregious human rights record and raises an array of potential legal and regulatory issues, including relating to the PGA's non profit tax status and antitrust law.

Golf is a sport that invigorates the Seniors who would otherwise go bonkers at home during their retirement years.
It is a healthy option for them, as it seems to postpone their onset of dementia!!
I agree that this PGA agreement with the LIV reeks of corruption setting into this sport that has got several top PGA players really concerned with this deal.

If seniors want to stay limber play tennis. Golf is the most environmentally destructive sport there is, the amount of nitrates golf courses use to maintain their fairways and greens far exceeds that used by homeowners on their lawns. When a rainstorm hits, our drainage systems can't keep up, most of the effluence gets dumped straight into the lake. The algae bloom that results chokes the oxygen out of the water - dead fish smell.
Just think of how much lower your property taxes and water rates would be if all the golf courses were closed.

I don't have a problem with the PGA being subservient to the Saudis, sports washing is better than flying planes into buildings.
I just play sports like Tennis, Squash and Badminton. However, there are many Seniors who are not that fit to play such sport due to health issues.
Golf can be a sport that they can just about manage to cope with. I agree that subsidies should be curtailed to private golf courses as they can afford the upkeep.
However, think about the amount of Revenue that they are generating in taxes. Otherwise, why has the Council not shut down their courses? Golf will never be a dying sport. In fact in Ontario there is a large hue and cry for certain course owners who want to develop their courses into either housing estates or other industrial sites.
