Where my parents are from is really none of your business. But if you must know my dad is born Canadian. His parents parents are immigrants from europe and my mom is an immigrant but that is irrelevant because she is not from the countries that are affecting change in our country. fyi that's how it should be done ! religious groups should not be shutting down computer labs and denying other students entry for half hour ! It takes out of other childrens education.... This is a fucken elementary school ffs. Again. I'm truly disgusted by some of these comments. If you want to pray wait until after school and go to a mosque . Teaching world religions is fine. It is part of education, not indoctrination or worship. Praying and giving sermons are different. Catholics and Muslims should be banned from the latter. You can't just ban one (Muslims) and allow the other (Catholics).

did you only read one of my posts lol. Keep reading... They are using CLASS TIME to pray which is preventing non muslim students from getting the education that they deserve. These are elementary school kids that are ages 5-14! Seriously... you guys can keep going on your anti religion parade but I want no part of it. I am a proud Canadian catholic citizen and I will stay that way. I have such a strong position on this because if and when I have kids I want them to be able to learn that everyone is equal and with all these changes that is never going to happen in which case I will work my ass off to make sure my kids are homeschooled so that I myself can teach them the same values that I grew up with.. Again if they want to pray , they should do it before and after school on their own time or wait until they have to go to the mosque. Not sure if public schools say prayer but I know catholic schools do , and wiggle FYI , were talking about PUBLIC schools I only mentioned catholic because I was explaining their policies..

You guys keep trying to prove me wrong but cant because these are my OPINIONS. if you don't like what the government is doing when It comes to catholics and the school system take it up with the prime minister. Everyone in Canada is different and have different moral values, religious values and beliefs and we are all entitled to it , that is what makes our country diverse. Please provide a link to prove that they were using class time.

I provided a quote from a newspaper article which stated the prayer room was a "free" room that implies a room that was NOT in use. The supervising teacher was a "volunteer" which means the teacher was doing it on their own time rather than time dedicated to teaching (i.e. during the teacher's lunch or prep period).

Correction. The school didn't allow a thing. IF a parent signs a note to take their kids out of school for ANY reason they can. The only caveat is that the student is responsible for catching up on any work that they missed. So if you want to sign your kid out to go to the dentist, hockey tournament, family vacation or mosque you can do it.

Also, you can't count of the school to deal with all situations properly. In fact many parents are upset. There was an article about a group of parents going after the York Region school board for what they believe were Human rights violations.... e.g. a black boy was beaten by white boys while shouting slurs (allegedly) and no suspensions happened. In one of the Catholic boards the family of a 10 year old boy is suing them for 900K because the school did nothing about three allegedly violent incidents.

The reason I asked about whether or not you were an immigrant was because you believe that they are ruining the country and my point was that you too were the descendents of immigrants. And I'd even bet that your family still practices at least some sort of activity that is "not Canadian" be it speak something other than English or French, celebrate a holiday other than "Canadian" ones or cook foods that are not "Canadian."

You choose to see these people as different but they are using the same laws that we enjoy. Jehovah's witnesses are allowed to opt out of the anthem. And if another religious group wanted a prayer room they too could ask for it. In other words the things you have pointed out about Muslims could easily be about another group. Other groups have and will ask for their practices to be accepted as well. This is nothing new.
