you do realize that an unrepresented accused will cost the criminal justice system more money than one who is represented on legal aid? for example, there will more time in court as the judge explains the rules of evidence. there will be a series of mistrials - so the juries will have their time wasted as well. or in your world are we getting rid of judges and juries as well as defence counsel???

Actually we don't know that. Until he is assessed by a psychiatrist we don't know if he knew what he was doing was right or wrong. PLEASE understand I am NOT condoning what he apparently did but the concept of knowing what you have done is wrong is another very important part of our legal system.

The acussed is Asian, like you whynot888. He most likely got the idea of decapitation from the videos from the Middle East of the decapitations of political prisoners circualating on the internet. Whynot888, since he is Asian like you, it still would not be appropriate to ask you why he did this, as that would be racist right? But wait, there are Asians who are of the Muslim faith too right? My theory (pure speculation):
Li found out his wife was having some sort of affair. Probably hacked into her email and found some messages and a pic of some guy. Confronts her and she says it's all over, in fact he's left town, just to a greyhound to xyz. Li takes his knife, drives or hitches or whatever to catch up with the bus. Thinks he recognizes the guy, and gets his revenge.
Either way I hope we find out the truth. It's hard to believe someone could be so truly insane to do something like that out of pure randomness.

Did Li just happen to have this knife on the bus with him out of coincidence or always carried it with him or did he bring it along because he knew he wanted to do this for whatever reason to someone sometime on the trip?

He could have also been wearing the sunglasses because he wanted not to be so suspicious to the people as he was deep in thought about when he was going to strike.

Maybe Li found out his wife was having some sort of affair with a young white man? Possibly giving massages? That goes along with the speculation above and the asian on the totem pole discussion.

I do agree with you but I would like to know is what the hell was he doing with a large hunting knife?

I don't believe he was thinking about hunting animals. The only thing that doesn't sound that it was premeditated was who he was going to kill.

I believe he had every intention to kill someone on this trip whether it was on the bus or not.

Like I said before, he probably will not see the light of day again. Thanks goodness for that. Again, my thoughts and prayers to the victim's family.
