Because you've chosen to be part of society? Next you're going to be complaining that the city won't let you build a home wherever you want.

Winner!!!!!! Maybe all the idiots who call 911 to complain will listen to your advice.
Seriously? You can do better than that Basketcase. False equivalence. try again.

Regarding your MP. Most likely the best way to handle it. I would never call 911 for something this trivial. But we should be able to complain somehow.

The incompetent morons are the ones that are too stupid to take the 90 seconds it takes to turn the feature off on their phones.
You are an idiot. That is why people are complaining. There is no way to turn off these alerts because of the way they are sent in Canada. If the phone is connected to LTE, it will receive the alert regardless of any setting on the phone. The only thing is they can be muted, but then you are muting all notifications on the phone. The whole province must wake up at 3 AM and waste their time because of a child who is probably already psychologically damaged and will not be a very good member of the society anyway.

Wow! Might as well just kill that kid if the abductor doesn't, eh? Your statement exudes your intellect and empathy.

Yikes, I really hope you're not a huge Trump fan based on the above.
I am far from a huge Trump fan. Why would what I said make you think I was?

I'm saying that automatically labeling someone a "hater" just because they disagree with you is a cheap move designed to dismiss any criticism. It's fucking lazy, and unfortunately many in our society use it so they can remain in their ideological bubbles.

I mean, I don't care what happens, so go ahead. Forcing millions of people to lose sleep over a single child's family dispute is definitely the intelligent thing to do.

Listen dude, you don't know what you are talking about.
I have an Android from Rogers... and I have a specific setting where I can turn off Amber Alerts.
And I have the good night's sleep to prove it.
Try again.

How do you feel about the fire truck and the sirens at 3am responding to your neighbours house fire?
Where are your complaints to the fire department?

That actually is a good point. Does the Fire Department HAVE to use sirens on practically deserted streets at 3AM?

There is a difference between it being your neighbour and being people sleeping in Timmons who can't help at all.

Please explain what the difference is?
You can't help the person in Timmins.
How are you going to help your neighbor down the street? By running into their burning house just after the fire department arrives?

I would like to know that too. What is it exactly that I'm suppose to do at 3:00 am with as vague information as possible in those alerts. Also I think the last alert was given after the kid was found already so please lets have some common sense before we make it a routine wake up call for everybody!

Maybe the person in Timmins who abducted the child doesn't stay in Timmins, and goes to other places where they think they might be more anonymous. But then alas, there is someone who identifies them.

I think, calling 911 to complain about Amber Alerts is the most effective way to protest against its intrusive use. Noone will give a shit if people will complain to regular police departments or even to MPs. Think of calling 911 as of street demonstration: both leads to possible costs to society, but both are an effective methods to protest and make a difference. People should be able to sing off them if they want to.
The term is civil disobedience
And I will keep calling 911 and keep supporting the movement

Whatever the other side thinks, at this point there are thousands of complaints per night to the point where the entire 911 system is actually being interrupted
Sooner or later they will get it, and if something bad happens to make them get it then sorry in advance

OK. That webpage shows that there is an altering system in place.
We knew that already, that is why this thread exists.
Where in your link does it state that it is impossible to disable your phone from receiving the alerts?
You don't know what you're talking about. I said "There is no way to turn off these alerts because of the way they are sent in Canada. If the phone is connected to LTE, it will receive the alert regardless of any setting on the phone." Turn off whatever alert you want on your phone. It does not matter. The useless corrupt CRTC fucks are abusing their power and misusing the alert system. Amber alerts in Canada are sent as Presidential Alerts, the highest alert level possible, and cannot be turned off. They are intended to be used for things like an incoming missile rather than missing, abducted, or dead kids. Instead of waking up millions of Canadians in the middle of the night for someone's family dispute, they should be useful for once and regulate the price fixing oligopoly.

The 9-1-1 dispatchers have nothing to do with issuing, controlling, or sending the alerts. Like calling Canada Post to complain about your newspaper boy. Eventually, some police force will have enough of it and start charging people for it. All calling 9-1-1 does to complain is demonstrate what an uneducated selfish rube the caller is. Like I said, if you go to the local fire station, they will give you a colouring book and crayons to help you learn what 9-1-1 is for.

The problem is people are going to start getting so annoyed and/or so desensitized to it because of all the misused amber alerts, that it will negate the system and What it is need for. Some natural disaster will happen and no one will be paying attention to the system anymore when they hear it. .
