Oh geez. What about those with 1)Aging Parents 2)Teenage Drivers 3)Who are on call?

Should we just put our phones on ignore?

See, that's just the thing We DO have a life, and are prepared to be woken up regarding things we are required to deal with.

Of course, If I'm sleeping and an Amber alert goes off due to a custody dispute, and I'm naked in bed, or fucking a beautiful woman.....What good am I to the effort to find the lost kid??

That's right. I'm no help at all....so please.....do NOT disturb me.
Did you not ready my response or is your EGO taking control and doing all the talking for your because of your entitlement that you simply can’t comprehend a statement?

In iphones they have a feature called Do Not Disturb. Under this feature it has a tab called “ Allow Calls From” under the description it says “When in Do Not Disturb, Allow incoming calls from your favourites”. In my reply above I said white lists. What about this don’t you understand or do you still have the need to complain because you cant comprehend a simple statement and how to use your cell phone.

There is no reason we should be having this discussion. Just learn how to operate your phone...I know I know it doesn’t have those clicky buttons and you guys used roosters to wake up but get with the fucking program and stop being part of the lazy complainers.

I see the Amber message after I wake up however it never wakes me up because I simply manage it on my phone. Why would the police be responsible to hold your hand and tell you how to use your device? Were you that spoon fed while growing up where you expect others to do everything for you so you have more reason to complain?

Police should start fining these people who unnecessarily tie up the police lines with these type if none sense.

My friend..I know how to use a cell phone, thank you so very much.

Now..let's see: On Call calls could come from 100-200 customers. We get new customer every day. Some use land lines some cell phones...What do you suggest here?

Teenage kid, in accident taken to hospital, call comes from land line or cop at the scene (this has happened)...what do you suggest here??

Same with Aging parent. Or parents/kids travelling in other countries. Sometimes the calling number is not displayed/available or distorted....what do you suggest here??

So, you see, don't want to block ANY calls that may come from any number, if it is a problem/emergency I can deal with>

I would like to block the odd disturbing alarm that comes in that I can do nothing about.

Pretty simple, really.

Where is my EGO in all this my friend? And my entitlement? What's that all about?

Perhaps it's your life that is very small, and these sort of things don't occur to you? But this is simple life for many of us.

If you really need your phone from unknown callers you have some options:
1. Landline and bounce your phone to it when in do not disturb
2. VOIP phone that uses internet and bounce your phone
3. Put up with a wake up call or delegate to someone else if you really need to sleep due to safety reasons

How many people are in this situation you described vs. the benefit of the Amber Alert System.

Majority of people who complain simply forgot to place their phones on silent and do not disturb. The percentage of people in the example you described is extremely low that doesnÂ’t have a land line or VOIP or needs to sleep and doesnÂ’t have anyone else to take over etc.

I believe you may underestimate the number of people in this group, sir.

But regardless, why force people to jump through hoops? Why not allow fully grown adults to make their own choice?

For goodness sake, we have a legal 'do not call list' in this country so people's dinners are not disturbed. (I always thought it was unfair to business...but that's why the public wanted.)

Ok, but 95% of people can fix the problem by just setting it on silent. The alarm is not an issue. Your alarm will still go off if your phone is set on silent. I don’t know if it’s that way with all phones, but on iPhones it definitely works that way, I do that all the time, and my friend who has an android phone does the same thing. I think probably a lot of people are just assuming their alarm won’t work on silent and have never actually tried it.
Didn't work on my Iphone 6S a couple years ago. I accidentally had it on silent, and my alarm never sounded and the phone never vibrated. When I woke up half an hour after my designated wake-up time, the phone display showed the regular alarm screen as if the alarm was still going off, but nothing else was happening. They may have updated the software since, though.

Thank you. I do love them. Lol

Additional thoughts: Not that I want to see someone die but I can't wait for the next heart attack someone has when woken up to thIs.

Or the proof of worse driving from all the sleepy people the next morning. Insurance companies will be able to complain and I bet, properly get it stopped. Maybe that is the route to go.

Or when CHMA posts about the spike in outpatient anxiety attacks because of these.

There are more people in the world then just the possible missing kid. The last one the kids and grandpa were fine and found by a passing police car that had nothing to do with the amber alert.

And the one kid that did die, sadly was dead before the alert went out.

The system is fucked. Fix it.
Oh puhlease...
Where are the insurance company studies that prove that there are more accidents the morning after a thunder storm?
Or what about the medical studies that prove that thunder and lightning cause heart attacks or anxiety?
People are so fucking triggered and sensitive (whiney) these days.

It is VERY simple to turn these alerts off.
It took me about 90 seconds to figure it out on my Samsung from Rogers.

If you don't like the alerts, stop fucking whining and take control of your own life and change the settings on your fucking phone.

I believe if you have it on vibrate but no sound it will not go off if you put it on do not disturb. I think I had a similar issue with the note 4 but fixed through settings. Just test it when you are setting it up.

Its a small price to pay for potentially saving a live.

Now the question is can the system be refined and improved and properly managed to prevent misuse and the public losing trust and respect for the system. Of course it can and I believe it needs to improve based on the mismanagement previously experienced.

However 911 is not the place to complain and the smartphones are the BEST way to reach a mass amount of people instantly.

I think the approach is fine however the system needs to improve.

Maybe make phone companies mandatory to have the option to disable or manage the broadcast alerts so you can turn off the sound and vibration specifically. Should be doable through a minor software update so at least it shows up in our notifications but we don’t hear it.

This was at CRTC decision and the carriers had to implement it.

There are many small little intrusions in people's lives that may 'save a life'.

That is the balance we have to decide in a free society. I tend to lean towards individual decisions trump the collective in just about everything.

Our argument is with the Feds....And I agree that calling 911 is wrong.

But if you check the CRTC website, you can complain about a whole bunch of stuff regarding cell carriers. You can't complain about their overreach as a deep state organization. I say call your MP.

Here's an idea for the boneheads who think 9-1-1 is the place to call to complain about Amber Alerts....call one of those pizza places that have a 30 min or free delivery policy instead. They have as much to do with implementing and issuing Amber alerts as a 9-1-1 operator does, but wasting the pizza places time won't endanger anyone's safety. Instead, it might tie up the pizza place so the delivery time is delayed. Then someone gets a free pizza from your useless complaining.

Instead of going through all the hoops to make a phone only allow certain numbers in at night, which still isolates it from other potential calls that may not be in one's favorites, just make it so a person can opt out of the alert right from the time you sign up for the phone account.

It is the selfishness of the entitled idiots that can't make their divorce work, and feel that the ramifications of such should be everyone else's problem.

You want to save lives in these situations.
Change the incredibly one sided institute of family law, and stop women from denying a father from having access to his child just because she is pissed that he no longer wants to bang her anymore.

Harsh. But probably accurate.

So you are regularly awoken in the night by any of 200 people but are complaining something that has happened 2 or 3 times?

Because you've chosen to be part of society? Next you're going to be complaining that the city won't let you build a home wherever you want.

I say call your MP.
Winner!!!!!! Maybe all the idiots who call 911 to complain will listen to your advice.

Yes. Probably once or twice every 2 weeks or so. And of course this is my job, and I can actually do something about it. Unlike a kid in some car, somewhere while I'm in my bed.
