Maybe he had some hits on the country charts, but no hit was anywhere near as popular as this (and I never get tired of it):
[/QUOT. He had such a great voice. Loved the song El Paso. Quick funny story, as a young teenager I really liked his song A White Sport Coat and a Pink Carnation to the point that I bought one, wore it to the CNE met a girl bought her a free hotdog won a giant teddy bear, of course gave it to her, became my first girlfriend. Thank you Marty Robbins. LOL.
This song did have a very catchy beat but was quite violent about a student with mental issues and wanted to shoot people. Aparently Pumped Up Kicks referred to an expensive brand of shoes.
A favourite one hit wonder song of mine goes back to 1958, sung by Tommy Edwards, It's All In The Game,. The interesting thing about this song was that the melody was written by a Charles Dawes in 1911 and he later became a vice president of the U.S. The lyrics were written by someone else in 1951 and it was recorded by many artists after that. Some of you oldies may remember it.
